Yeah not sure hes an upgrade either but EJ brings some things on the backend that no one else we have did. It might not be game defining but he provides that edge people have been looking for as well as leadership on the backend that has been lacking.

This Levi hype is completely insane. The kid has played 7 games and he was just barely under 3.00 GAA and just barely over 900 SV%. Craig Anderson had a better SV% last year. In 2021-2022 Luukkonen played 9 games with significantly better numbers, how did that turn out in 2022-2023?

Levi was a decent to above average prospect but not an elite one, and the entire reason Florida was willing to trade him was they had a much better prospect in Spencer Knight. Anyone watch Spencer Knight regress last year after a pretty great start to his NHL career?

Is UPL a bust, is Spencer Knight a bust? No idea yet. The point is goaltending is all over the place year to year, and especially with young guys. Anyone remember Ryan Miller crying and getting sent back down? He turned out okay, but he wasn't ready at 23 to be an NHL goalie, even though he had played 15 games at 22 and been decent.

This is not to say Levi won't be great. He could be. But if anything right now he is a weakness, because history shows it is quite likely that at some point this year if he is asked to play 50+ games he is going to have at least a stretch where he just isn't able to handle it.

I like a lot of what Adams is doing, but this city and this team's management really need to stop assuming best case scenario for everything. If we stay healthy, if Levi is a star, if Kulich and Rosen and Savoie step up to fill in spots vacated by Quinn and Olofsson, if Clifton has a bounce back season, if the teams around us all take a step back, if if if...

I don't expect him to be perfect but hes an upgrade from what we had. And if he plays with Power that could cover some of his lapses.

he did have his best season last year though(regardless if its Boston or not). A bounce back would require him to of had a bad season.

Reasons for optimism:
-bottom 4 defense should be significantly better - it's hard to explain how bad Bryson was and Joker was for most of the time
-no reason for kids to take another step forward - Levi, Power, Quinn (albeit the injury) Peterka, Cozens, Kulich, Rousek or Savoie (whomever sticks), even Jost
-Dahlin, Sammy and Tage hopefully healthier this year?
-Levi
-PK has to be better, Johnson is solid on PK and Clifton was #1 in the league
-Hope there's more moves to come

Reasons for pessimism:
-We were relatively injury free last year
-Regression from the Tage line? not a sure thing but could happen as all had career years.
-UPL/Comrie
-92 points got you in the playoffs last year, it won't in most years
-Defense is vastly improved, but still no clear cut partner for Power

Pretty accurate summary of where we’re at. I’d add that while KA seems solid at drafting, and signing some good contracts, he has yet to demonstrate the ability to make a real hockey trade. Managements effort to squeak into the playoffs last year came too late, and wasn’t enough when it finally happened. That was a clear failure. That doesn’t mean this all won’t work out in the end. It means he tried and it failed. Both of these things can be true at the same time.

There were some very concerning things in the playoffs. He seemed to fall from grace with the organization near the end of the season and was particularly horrible in the playoffs (the whole team left a lot to be desired, but he was extra bad). His ice time went way down in the playoffs as well.

Didn't watch much of the Boston series so I never saw, but have seen those concerns voiced from the Bruin fans.

If memory serves me correct(from those Bruin fans) he wasn't terrible until he was pressured in the playoffs. Then he became a giveaway machine. Bad matchup maybe? idk.

Good thing no one thinks playoffs are attainable or he might look out of place
