Getting close with this team, that's for sure. Gave me a bit of hope last season. Unfortunately this off-season has brought me back down to thinking Groundhog Syndrome all over again.

The Sabres overpaid 2 players that their respective teams didn't want.

No we now have the best team defense and pk, added to the 3rd best offensive group. The rookie goalie is better than Hasek already, if you couldn't come to that conclusion after a 7 game trial then your a negative nancy.

Did you know Bettman is storing the cup at HarborCenter for the season, its so obvious they are going to win it.

Levi article:

https://www.flohockey.tv/...-hockeys-greatest-goalies

"Without Devon Levi, these last two seasons could have been very different for Northeastern. Instead, he kept them competitive and relevant to the very end. He probably deserved a better end to his collegiate career, but like he did every time out, he gave everything he had and kept his team in a position to win at nearly all times.

As he heads to the Buffalo Sabres soon, he will have a chance to become an NHL starter in the near future. Though Levi lacks the prototypical NHL size, he has excelled at every step of the way in his career. His historic numbers build up a lot of credibility, but now he has to prove it on an even bigger stage.

If his career to date is any indication, there is no stage too big for Devon Levi. He’s going to show up, he’s going to play and he’s going to stop an awful lot of pucks."

Tons of upside for him, NHL players hit their peaks at 24/25 so in 3/4 seasons he should be at one of the best goalies in the game.

"But the one thing I didn’t include was an aging adjustment. This is an integral part of any serious projection system for the obvious reason: Using past years to project future data is sound, but players will be OLDER in the future and increased age generally results in worse performance (except for the really young). This is especially the case with hockey, where peak performance has been found to be at ages 24-25. If we really want to project goalie performance going forward, we need to find out how well goalies age."

Clifton article:

https://bostonhockeynow.c...ee-agents-connor-clifton/

"Thanks to new head coach Jim Montgomery setting him free after five seasons on a leash with former Boston Bruins bench boss Bruce Cassidy, Connor Clifton had a phenomenal regular season in his walk year. However, he seemed to fall out of favor with Montgomery down the stretch run. Obviously, the acquisition and emergence of Dmitry Orlov played a role in that, but when given the chance to answer the bell in the Bruins’ seven-game first round loss to the Florida Panthers, quite frankly, Clifton failed.

One game shouldn’t make a difference but the 28-year-old Clifton had arguably the worst game of his career in a 7-5 loss for the Boston Bruins in Game 6. Clifton had no points and was a minus 3 with a costly turnover in 13:22 TOI in that game that paved the way for the Game 7 loss that capped off a blown 3-1 series lead for the Bruins.

In his final media availability on May 2, Clifton indicated that contract talks hadn’t really begun in earnest yet.

“No, not really. I was hoping to do that in late June, honestly,” he told reporters. “Obviously, with the early departure, there’s a lot more time for that in the coming weeks, but no, haven’t talked too much about it yet.”

With Johnson, you're right, but Boston didn't have the money to resign Clifton. I'm sure they would have taken him. They have 5M to sign Swayman, Frederic and like five defenseman. It was a numbers game, he would've had to take a $1M deal to stay most likely.

I figured with Johnson and Clifton signing, he was out of the equation. Think there's still room? Who gets moved? Bryson and Boosh?

LATEST ON THE CANUCKS

THE PROVINCE: Patrick Johnston reports the Vancouver Canucks have a glut of wingers following their recent re-signing of Nils Hoglander. He believes two or three will have to go before their regular season opens on Oct. 11.

Johnston noted that sidelined winger Tanner Pearson is expected to be recovered in time for training camp. If he’s indeed healthy, he’ll push their list of wingers to nine, which is one more than they can dress for a game. That could result in one or two players being demoted or management works out a trade.

The only true trade candidates on the Canucks are Brock Boeser, Conor Garland and Hoglander. Johnston writes that management seems disinclined to move any of them but might not have a choice.

I don't think it's happening. The only way I see an add on the blueline is via trade at this point.

Joker might have some value in a trade (3rd round??) but thestaff seems to like him for reasons I can't fathom. Boosh will be in the rotational 5/6/7. Bryson will clear waivers and be sent to Rochester.
