It’s absolutely true. Look at prospect rankings. The guys at the top a lot of times are from the most recent draft - sbroads24
Well, yes, of course. You really can't see where your logic falls apart?
Kulich is a Grade A prospect. If I go out and draft a Benson of 5 Bensons... Kulich is still a Grade A prospect. It doesn't matter if he is rated 2nd or 6th in our pool. He still is who he is.

what makes it interesting
not all of these skilled prospects will get top 6 ice time in rochester due to numbers - homiedclown
Why not? You assume that they are all going to be there at the same time.

Its a legit question. Ostlund, Savoie and Benson won't in Roch this year, Kulich probably won't be there for more than another year. That isn't putting a positive spin on it, it is just reality.

I think it really depends but I’d say a majority of the time guys lose value from the point they are drafted until they start producing in the NHL.
Kulich stock has obviously risen.
How about Rosen? Would a team trade a late first for him now? Probably not. Especially not a mid first.

Well sure - but none of that has to do with who else was drafted.

kassian had great numbers in the ohl which of course is more of an example of the original post

Thought to be a solid power forward. Reduced to a bottom 6 player.
When you think of guys like this you think they dont have talent/skill but they have more in their pinky than all of us combined.
They are closer to Gretzky than we are to them.

Think it's possible that part of his inability to make trades is that some of his prospects have already declined in value. - Lunaion
Or, just maybe, no one wants them. Cannot trade what no one wants. |

Peters was supposed to be good at the time my dude. Pretty sure he played in the Don Cherry AllStar game. He mightve even scored in it! |

Kulich is our best prospect. Team wants to trade with the Sabres, Kulich is the first prospect they're asking for. |

what are you doing with krebs, casey, quinn, peterka
if keeping them all, and assuming kulich gets promoted
that's the top 9 for the big club and the log jam starts in rochester

I think there's an element of that. We know they want to bring in a G. Now that UPL needs to go through waivers, how much is anyone willing to trade for him? I'd assume very little.

Logjam? In this scenario, we are talking about one guy potentially being blocked. I hated that we brought back Girgs because I wanted to see Rousek take his spot. That said, injuries are always happening. Kulich and Rousek will get their shots.
I just don't get why there is a negative connotation to all of this. If the kids are knocking on the door and there isn't an obvious spot for them, that is a very, very good thing. But we aren't close to that because the next wave of forwards is still marinating.

21 trades in less than 3 years. I don't get the narrative where the guy doesn't make trades.
https://www.capfriendly.c.../trades/staff/kevyn-adams - Slump Buster
9 really
eichel, reinhart, risto, montour, staal, hall
he had to do those or lose them aside from eichel
so 3 trades he did not have to make that affected the big club
getting staal, greenway, and stillman
ah; scrub for ahl scrub does not count IMO nor does getting all star ben bishop

Not going to block anyone. If they earn a job, they'll make moves.
Gotta love GM speak.

How many of those are sells vs adds to the NHL roster
It's not really close that almost all if not all significant trades have been selling pieces hes had to |

Those are still are some major moves mixed in there. Again, he didn't have a lot of holes to fill because he had prospects coming. It isn't like he was standing still as the team slid backwards.

ostlund
savoie
rosen
neuchev
kisakov
kozak
nadeau
all under contract
poltapov
sardarian
benson
wahlberg
yet to get under contract
I am not counting murray, rousek, weissbach, biro or murray
the roster with the big club is set if kulich or savoie gets the call, assuming they move olofsson

How many of those players are within a country mile of the NHL? We can name several current players that won't be in a year or two. Again, these are good problems to have, but we aren't really near to any of this being true. If Ostlund challenges a guy like Mitts for playing time in 2 years, fantastic. |
