THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER: Gustav Elvin explored why an agreed-upon trade between the Flyers and Hurricanes that would send defenseman Tony DeAngelo back to the Canes has not yet occurred.
It’s been nearly three weeks since reports emerged the two clubs had a trade in place with the Flyers retaining 50 percent of DeAngelo’s $5 million cap hit for 2023-24. However, it may have been held up because the CBA states that a team cannot reacquire a player whom they have retained salary from for a minimum of one year after the date of the transaction.
That prompted speculation the deal would be finalized on July 9, one year and a day after the Flyers had acquired DeAngelo from the Hurricanes.
Elvin wonders if the holdup might be tied to the Hurricanes’ rumored interest in San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson. He speculates that might mean trading Brett Pesce to free up cap room to acquire Karlsson.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: This could drag on for a while if the Hurricanes are jockeying with the Penguins to land Karlsson. DeAngelo would complete the final year of his contract with the Flyers if their deal with the Hurricanes falls through. They could also attempt to find another club willing to take him off their hands for 50 percent of his salary.
Didn't Gerbe say be patient as KA was going to add a forward, a 4D AND a goaltender?I love Levi, but KA is playing a very dangerous game if the goaltending remains status quo. I still think Hart is in play. I don't think Hellebuyck nor Gibson are options they're considering. - turbo044
Adams isn't playing any games, he has 0 pressure to win and is acting like it.

they are lucky there are fans like us in sabre chat rooms after the crap they put on the ice for the past decade plus
it's going to be a tough task to get the 22-28 year olds to get anywhere near as excited as many of us were as they have experienced a decade plus of the worst hockey in nhl history at their home arena - homiedclown
You and Bandit aren't wrong, but it is getting better too. Been a long time since we had any hope around here, I'm just excited to see that change.

Sabres Feel Goaltending is Already Set
Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic: As Fairburn writes the only thing the Buffalo Sabres did not address when free agency opened was goaltending. The belief from general manager Kevyn Adams is that Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Devon Levi, and Eric Comrie will be the trio that guides the Sabres this season.
There was never any doubt to me that Levi and 6K would be the goalies. Adams would have to be a (frank)in moron to change it as evidenced by the track record of the posters on here that wanted it to be different. Total dud posters. Worthless takes. A goalie phenom with a winning record backup. Outside of the Swedish Bikini team white water rafting in a case of Old Milwaukee while you’re fishing, it doesn’t get any better than this.
Like they always say around here, 3ER isn’t always right but ain’t ever been wrong. WOOOOO. Whether you like the 3ER or hate the 3ER, you better learn to love the 3ER because I’m the best thing goin around here. WOOOOOOOOO

Surprised nobody has taken a shot on Comtois yet. Gotta be something with the investigation. - Buff36
I'd read there are quite a few teams holding back until they get more definitive findings there. I'm not sure they know, so he may just be considered too risky of a play.

Official Statement from Bill Armstrong, Arizona Coyotes GM:
“I’d heard somewhere that he was a point per game player in Colorado last season, so we signed him.
Then, this morning… the dial-up’s a little spotty at the Mullett but I noticed my staff had been conglomerating on the other side of the building near a window where they could tether to the wifi from the Starbucks across the street. I hadn’t been online in weeks. I’d brought my laptop over there earlier today and finally had a chance to look this kid up on hockeydb. I realized ‘poop, it was the Colorado Eagles, not the Avalanche.’
It was a tough decision to let Alex go. We had to factor in the cost of both terminating the contract and making a long distance call to the NHL office. Our capologist, who’s great with money by the way - best in the league, Id argue - suggested I just call them collect and announce the termination super quickly when I record my name, so that’s what we did.
If any of you have a chance to talk to Alex, please let him know.”
Is he good then? That's a pretty low bar. - QuinnFan
To me he is better than the current signed options for Buffalo, I do not have any idea what his ceiling is or if he could ever reach it, but he would be one I am ok with giving the opportunity. He brings the needed edge in his game and its natural for him.

That's fair. I just don't see us waiving all these defenseman. I mean I'm not sure guys like Bryson or Boosh would garner any interest if shopped.

That makes sense, it's too bad Pesce said no to Buffalo
