Those are still are some major moves mixed in there. Again, he didn't have a lot of holes to fill because he had prospects coming. It isn't like he was standing still as the team slid backwards. - Slump Buster
he had to move eichel, staal, reinhart, risto, montour and hall
so removing them, are you saying he made more than 3 nhl trades for the big club?
aside from trading up in the draft
it's his 4th year as gm

Logjam? In this scenario, we are talking about one guy potentially being blocked. I hated that we brought back Girgs because I wanted to see Rousek take his spot. That said, injuries are always happening. Kulich and Rousek will get their shots.
I just don't get why there is a negative connotation to all of this. If the kids are knocking on the door and there isn't an obvious spot for them, that is a very, very good thing. But we aren't close to that because the next wave of forwards is still marinating. - Slump Buster
It's not a negative connotation, it's positive. This team is pretty good today, has the assets, and had the cap space to make a big improvement.
Thinking they need to wait on all this development is the negative spin. |

How many of those players are within a country mile of the NHL? We can name several current players that won't be in a year or two. . - Slump Buster
if first round picks are not nhl ready in year 3
you have a drafting problem

How many of those are sells vs adds to the NHL roster
It's not really close that almost all if not all significant trades have been selling pieces hes had to - sbroads24
I was gona say. 9-10 of those trades at for 7th rd picks or future considerations. |

Again, these are good problems to have, but we aren't really near to any of this being true. If Ostlund challenges a guy like Mitts for playing time in 2 years, fantastic. - Slump Buster
Sure as long as Mitts didn't get a 5ys 22.5mill extension just before it. |

He just finished his 3rd year, and I dare say that part of the first year he was GM in name only.
Ok, you got me. When you put aside a majority of the trades that he made (and made very, very well), he hasn't made a ton of trades. You do realize that when you take away all of those trades, you are also lessening the amount of spots that he needed to improve.
For example, people point to the Devils getting Meier because they lacked a top-line winger (e.g. their version of Tuch). Well, we have 2 top-line wingers, one of which was acquired by Adams in a deal that you discount. We also have a clear second line. He traded for the future goalie in another trade that we are not allowed to consider. And so on.

(shrug) if he is the same Mitts that we saw at the end of last year, wouldn't you want him to have that contract? A scoring winger with affordable term is worth a lot in a trade.

That's what you and others continually miss. Several people here think that they NEED to make a move or more moves. While I would like to see a good hockey trade, I don't think that they NEED to do it. That is not the same as arguing that we shouldn't make trades - I don't think anyone here is advocating for that. |

Yes I would but if Ostlund is pushing him for playing time that means Mitts isn't doing what he supposed to be doing. |

You’re ignoring the point here though.
He’s been shy or reluctant to pull the trigger on trades he isn’t forced to make. That’s a fact.
If he’s not forced to make a move chances are he won’t.
And I’m sorry, but the “we have no holes” narrative is just so absurdly insane.
The “2nd line” right now consists of Olofsson and JJ on the wings. Or possibly Greenway.
No bonafide top 6 winger there.
UPL is not a bonafide NhL goalie.
Clifton is not a bonafide top 4 D.
There are a few very sketchy parts of the roster

Why does that need to be true? What if it was because Ostlund was tearing it up in Roch? Again, there is always the negative assumption in all of these scenarios.

what are you doing with krebs, casey, quinn, peterka
if keeping them all, and assuming kulich gets promoted
that's the top 9 for the big club and the log jam starts in rochester - homiedclown
Mittelstadt I think will eventually be pushed out whether it’s at the end of the year or after they bridge him (2-3 years).
Krebs’ seat is red hot. I believe in the player and think a jump is coming, but it’s now or never for him in this organization with the talent coming up.
Quinn and Peterka fit in the top 9, Quinn just needs to stay healthy. |

If Clifton can solve the teams PK issues than I will happily admit I am wrong.
The coaches/system are the same, will be interesting to see how impactful he will be. - washedup20
TBF we can't be certain the the "system" will be the same. It's quite possible that the coaching staff is taking this offseason to digest what went well and what did not go well and make adjustments from there. It's like their entire job.

We are really only a short little while from mediocrity and being the laughing stock of the league. Whether you and others value this or not, we have absolutely everything pointing in the right direction. We've beaten this to death - you and others want moves made yesterday and that Adams has failed the team if he doesn't. I think they are on a perfectly legit trajectory towards being the team that we've all dreamed of. He has a plan and he is sticking to it - that doesn't make him trigger shy.

If you're going to give term to a guy who will turn 26 shortly after an extension, you have to consider the fact that regression is likely during the contract.

I was low on Krebs at the start of last year. I think his floor is a fantastic 4th line center. The fact that his offense increased when he was put with good players is a good sign.

Yes, I think so. You may have wanted more moves from him as part of how you would build a roster, and I get why you would. I look around the league and I can't think of 15 or 20 gms that I would clearly take over him. What he has done in 2 or 3 years is really remarkable.

this team could take a step backwards next season though in the standings
and things are pointing in the right direction for about 2/3 of the teams that miss the playoffs, so roughly 10 teams
we are just accustomed to things not being in the right direction for the majority of the pegula reign |

I think he should have made moves last season to turn the corner into a contender, not a fringe playoff team
even now, I do not see this team as a contender and the moves suggest to try to grab a road playoff spot
I think we are wasting the prime years of tage, tuch, skinner and dahlin |
