Yeah I was thinking about this as well. A 2-year, 2-way deal for $850 at the NHL level probably guarantees that no one takes him. - Hank Balling
Was thinking he might be Group-6 UFA at the end of the year. He's 14 days too young, so still RFA next summer.
Wonder why they did 1 year.

Occam's razor says this contract is the easiest thing to do. They probably don't see him in their future plans and don't care much one way or the other if he's claimed or not. Reassess next year if applicable |

Galchenyuk, who was born in the U.S. to Belarusian parents and spent much of his childhood in Russia, uttered a racial slur several times while referring to the officer in training, the report said.

Sabres are better at this. If I were ALLEGEDLY going to run into a Tim Hortons while ALLEGEDLY drunk then it would make sense to abandon the classic vehicle and ALLEGEDLY make it seem like maybe someone else was driving |

The deal being one year also increases the chances that he might actually get claimed.
Less work for the Sabres if they lose him for nothing and his contract just comes off the books. |

Its also possible he wanted a one year deal. I dont think the Sabres actually did this because its less work |

Not less work, less money. Triple E's
If they care about him staying in the system, offer him a multi-year deal with a better AHL salary. He'd be crazy not to take that. I don't think they really care if he's claimed or not (which, fine, that's certainly a defensible position)
These are things the Sabres used to do, like when they gave Cal OReilly $700k guaranteed at either level. |

Well they gave Cal that because ROR basically bent them over the table.
Idk, the Sabres process deserves a lot of criticism, im just not entirely sure its well aimed to make it about AHLers or 4th liners. Like 95% of this league will do the same.

Homie is thinking in the right direction, imo. Max contracts and AHL roster spots is an issue today and even more pressure next year. They might be fine with him getting claimed, if he doesn't make the team.

No disagreement from me on any of those fronts. But if they cared about keeping Murray, they could have handled it differently. I don't think they care at all, which again, maybe they're right. I hope he's claimed and gets an NHL look |

He's from 2 GMs ago. The Sabres feel the exact same way. He's had a hard grind. I'd love to see him rewarded with a shot |
