We are really only a short little while from mediocrity and being the laughing stock of the league. Whether you and others value this or not, we have absolutely everything pointing in the right direction. We've beaten this to death - you and others want moves made yesterday and that Adams has failed the team if he doesn't. I think they are on a perfectly legit trajectory towards being the team that we've all dreamed of. He has a plan and he is sticking to it - that doesn't make him trigger shy. - Slump Buster
Ok but again, one of the things I'd love to have happen is for the team itself and the fans to have standards that are at least an inch off the ground.
The team finished with 91 points with atrocious goaltending and while shooting an absurdly high % for a lot of the year. They also had minimal injuries to anyone that mattered. They used like 1 call up most of the year at forward.
Shooting regression is absolutely coming. And I don't think they did much to offset that on D or in goal
We could possibly contend now if he made two significant moves |

this team could take a step backwards next season though in the standings
and things are pointing in the right direction for about 2/3 of the teams that miss the playoffs, so roughly 10 teams
we are just accustomed to things not being in the right direction for the majority of the pegula reign - homiedclown
Yes, for the most part their ownership has been an unmitigated disaster. No doubting that.
So as we discussed a couple of weeks ago, the vast majority of the playoff teams took a step back from the end of last year. On paper we are definitely better, be it because of moves or growth. Other teams behind us improved - I can't say that any of them have passed us on paper. There are no excuses for us not to make the playoffs.

I am legit trying to understand. Why do they NEED a trade? What is going to happen if they don't? - Slump Buster
Unless Levi is a historic rookie goalie this roster is not making the playoffs. Chances are we score less goals, miss the jump Quinn would've taken and have the same goalie issues. |

TBF we can't be certain the the "system" will be the same. It's quite possible that the coaching staff is taking this offseason to digest what went well and what did not go well and make adjustments from there. It's like their entire job. - JCSabs06
Yes that's possible, why didn't those coaches try to change anything last season? That's a long digestive period. |

Why does that need to be true? What if it was because Ostlund was tearing it up in Roch? Again, there is always the negative assumption in all of these scenarios. - Slump Buster
So tearing it up in Rochester means the same thing in the NHL. And I hope Ostlund does come in a tear it up, but buy that time Mitts would have signed already and what is going on with Rosen Savoie Kulich Krebs have they not grown. I would think you would want them pushing Mitts this year so Adams can make a better call on extending Mitts or not. |

get a second line winger, a second pair d man and a real goalie and this team could be as good as any team in the east
needing 3 big spots shows that the lineup is flawed
will levi, savoie or kulich, and clifton fill those spots?

many assume the bruins will take a step back
who knows those guys have not retired as of yet
looking at the standings, assuming we will not catch them
the islanders IMO was the weakest roster going into the playoffs, and now
so you got
us
pens
caps
sens
wings
5 teams trying to get that one spot
with the islanders trying to get it as well
we are not better than the panthers, leafs, bolts, rangers, devils or canes on paper

average nhl gm tenure is 3.5 years
is adams above average? - homiedclown
I think for someone that is impatient and doesn’t understand Adams long term plan.
Then yes he is an average Gm… he is not Tim murray and he isn’t pulling off the big name trades.
As for someone who has patience….. I think he’s done a great job.
When he offloaded Eichel, reinhart, and Risto. He got amazing value back. I don’t think anyone will disagree with that
Drafting wise: his front off team has done a great job.
Adams has way way too many prospects. Eventually, by pure numbers game, someone will eventually have to go.
We will see what he does for the rest of the offseason.
I think he’s a good NHL GM.
He Ted lassoed the lockeroom. (If you watch ted lasso, you will get what I mean) |

Pretty nice list with some flashy names. Stevie Ys issue with Detroit is that he hasn’t been able to draft well at all. Not like he drafted with Tampa.
We will see if it works out |

I still don't see why you think that - because you want more moves now - that your standards are higher than mine? The goal is to win at least 1 cup, right? It isn't to get better for the right now, it is to build the best possible roster in the near future.
Also, the transactional thinking isn't how life works. Adams traded away our two or three best offensive players, and so many people said "he needs to go out and get offense". Well, he didn't need to. Last year people said that we needed to get a second line because the kids can't handle it. Wrong on that one as well. And so on.
Sure, there are reasons to think that their success last year might not be sustainable, and many more as to why it is. How many teams can say that at least half of their roster is still on the upswing?

You really think that - on paper - this team isn't way better than the start of last year? Included in that question is the growth of the kids, of course.

How true is that?
Seidr, Raymond, Edvinsson, Cossa, Kasper, ASP, and Danielson have been his 1sts with Detroit. Pretty solid, I think.

you can honestly say that we aren't on the same general level as the Panthers, Leafs and Rangers? I think we finish ahead of at least 1 of them and possibly 2. Florida had a terrible bottom half of their roster.

He is the classic example of a guy that shuffles the deck chairs around a lot with very little to show for it. He brought in some decent players this offseason, but that team needs higher-level talent (such as a better 1C).

A lot of this can go away if their team defensive structure and quality shots allowed improves from 32 to 20. |

The New York Shesterkin’s ?
The team the Sabres competed dominated each game they played the past year ?
Barring a huge jump from Lafreniere and Kakko I think they are in trouble |
