You really think that - on paper - this team isn't way better than the start of last year? Included in that question is the growth of the kids, of course.
- Slump Buster

Yes, they are better on paper.

Quinn was getting 3rd line minutes with JJ. He’s going to be good but they didn’t depend on him to score regularly last year.

Our offense last year was not the issue. It was defense and goaltending.

Levi for a full season is an upgrade over UPL, Comrie, and Anderson.

Then Clifton and Erik Johnson are 100% upgrades over Bryson, Clauge, joker, and Lybuskin.

Nathan Paetsch and Vinny Prospal have joined Seth Appert’s coaching staff with the Rochester Americans, replacing Mike Weber and Michael Peca.

The Sabres also announced the coaching staffs in Buffalo and Rochester received contract extensions.

If I am GMKA, I am trying to get a goalie that all this team needs. I would be calling Nashville daily trying to get Juuse Saros. 5 Million left for 2 years. He starts in front of Levi for 2 years allowing Levi to get 25-30 games and learning the NHL. We can worry about a back up in 2 years then for Levi

I would trade UPL, OLO and a 1st for Saros. I would even add an A level prospect if that needed to be done. Dude has been nothing but great for Nashville

He has been the target I wanted from day 1, however Nashville isn’t ready to blow it all up yet even though they should.

Also stuck in Buffalo because of Jet Blue issues. Who is drinking and where?

Your mistake here is thinking that development is a straight line.

If Helly has the same term left as Saros I would get him too. We only need a goalie for 2-3 years assuming Levi is the real deal of course...

Nashville is asking for two first round picks, the team's best prospect and a blue chip goaltending prospect. So would you do Saros for (2) 1sts, Levi and Kulich? That's the ask anyways.

I still don't see why you think that - because you want more moves now - that your standards are higher than mine? The goal is to win at least 1 cup, right? It isn't to get better for the right now, it is to build the best possible roster in the near future.

Also, the transactional thinking isn't how life works. Adams traded away our two or three best offensive players, and so many people said "he needs to go out and get offense". Well, he didn't need to. Last year people said that we needed to get a second line because the kids can't handle it. Wrong on that one as well. And so on.

Sure, there are reasons to think that their success last year might not be sustainable, and many more as to why it is. How many teams can say that at least half of their roster is still on the upswing?

- Slump Buster

So what exactly is this timeline and plan that wanting good NHL’ers now is some unreasonable ask? I’m super confused as to why it’s ok to keep pushing this further down the road

I agree with you about Levi. So many people here or on twitter act like Levi is going to play 55+ games and be fine.

If he plays around 35 games …. That would be ideal.

Saros is a good idea!

That is why I wasn’t worried about a helleybuck, Gibson type goalie trade. They will still carry the mail.

Would you call it amazing value though?
- Lunaion

Given the circumstances? Absolutely.

Eichel: 4 premium pieces, including a top-line winger that puts up almost as many pieces as he did

Reinhart: In recent years we've seen that wingers with one year left have diminished value. The pick ended up being a low first, but the result was Kulich (not sure if that changes the trade grade). Oh yeah, and Levi.

Risto: Shockingly-good return.

I know that Risto and Reinhardt were probably just auctions and those are easier to make. But he did insist on Levi. As for the the Eichel trade.... when you consider the limitation put on him (medicals, not able to retain celeary, fans wanting a move so we could move on) - he hit a home run. He really showed his stripes there.

No not with Levi in the wings. if we did not have Levi, then yes I would do that deal.

I think you can get Saros for 1st, 2nd, UPL, Kulich and another prospect if needed. Overpay but 2 first is not going to happen, it never or very rarely happens where any player gets multiple first.

I've said repeatedly that I get the desire to add NHL players now. Nobody said it is unreasonable.

Who pushed it down the road? We were the worst team in the league 3 years ago. Again, everything pointing up. Even if he started the season with the current roster, why is it a bad thing? Maybe it works out in the same way that it worked out the last 2 seasons and we take another big jump into the top 5 or 6 in the conference. If that happens, then Adams still has all of his options in front of him to make a move during the season.

That is horrible asset management because of the position. That's the package you give up for a star 1C, not a goalie. Also, at that level he is going to expect to be paid like an elite goalie.

he has zero to very little value to me right now. All prospects do. They have done poop in the NHL.

If he gets me Saros and goes on to be a 30/30 guy but we start winning in the playoffs so be it.

You seem fine with no clear expectations of anything, and that’s fine. I’m not.

That’s not the attitude I would like them to have.

I want them to act like enough is enough and the time is now.

This team needs a GOALIE everyone knows it. You can keep signing shatty back ups or go out and overpay for a good goalie that will mentor your up and coming stud.

Also if you can always trade Saros to at the end of the 25 season, he will be just 30 an we can recoup some of the assets we traded to get him.

I think you're being very biased with your grade. Mixing trade day value with current value.

Risto was shockingly good value when it was made, much less today. Sam was bad value when the deal was made, much better today.
