This team needs a GOALIE everyone knows it. You can keep signing shatty back ups or go out and overpay for a good goalie that will mentor your up and coming stud.

Also if you can always trade Saros to at the end of the 25 season, he will be just 30 an we can recoup some of the assets we traded to get him.

then why hold all these assets and make a few moves now, based on your logic
- homiedclown

I am all for moving assets now, frankly we have too many projected good ones, they all wont make this team. Murray this biotch up a little.... Time is now, cupboards are bursting with players we can afford to trade 2-4 away

You seem fine with no clear expectations of anything, and that’s fine. I’m not.

That’s not the attitude I would like them to have.

I want them to act like enough is enough and the time is now.

- sbroads24

I have said numerous times that I expect them to make the playoffs. I know you know this.

Enough is enough? What does that even mean? "Enough is enough" is for teams that have repeatedly failed to take the next step. I know you don't want to hear this but the goal last season wasn't to make the playoffs, just as the Bills goal wasn't to make the playoffs when Beane took over.

Given the circumstances? Absolutely.

Eichel: 4 premium pieces, including a top-line winger that puts up almost as many pieces as he did

Reinhart: In recent years we've seen that wingers with one year left have diminished value. The pick ended up being a low first, but the result was Kulich (not sure if that changes the trade grade). Oh yeah, and Levi.

Risto: Shockingly-good return.

I know that Risto and Reinhardt were probably just auctions and those are easier to make. But he did insist on Levi. As for the the Eichel trade.... when you consider the limitation put on him (medicals, not able to retain celeary, fans wanting a move so we could move on) - he hit a home run. He really showed his stripes there.

- Slump Buster

So the Eichel trade: Well Tuch has been really good. Really don't think anyone thought he would be this good, everything else is still a ? Other than Eichel has a Cup
Rhino I like the return again we will still have to wait to grade this. And Adams kinda screwed himself with the way he handled that last contract. And people can say Rhino forced his way out, yeah at the end because he was never offered a long term contract.

conditional 1st and 4th, plus a NHL body and prospect. I guess it fair for a guy that averages 30 goals a year.

But you're still cherry-picking through all of this. Eichel winning a cup doesn't change the trade one bit. We're not supposed to give him credit for Tuch because he may not have thought that Tuch was as good as he turned out to be? He had three trades that he had to make, and I think it is fair to say that he - at the very least - seems to have done very, very well.

I think you're being very biased with your grade. Mixing trade day value with current value.

Risto was shockingly good value when it was made, much less today. Sam was bad value when the deal was made, much better today.

- Lunaion

Buchnevich was traded for Blais and a 2nd rounder.

Bjorkstrand moved to Seattle for a 4th rounder.

Reinhart pulling Levi and a first rounder was quite good imo.

Debrincant pulled a first and a 4th if you want to ignore the fluff.

How am I Cherry Picking, I would say that Eichel trade isn't a gradable trade yet. What great things have we gotten so far. If things don't change on the ice and things move along your loosing that great value for Tuch cause his contract will be over before we compete for anything, what else in that trade has done anything.

I think that the value on paper isn't bad. The problem is that Ottawa has nothing else coming in the pipeline and they desperately need more top 6 players.

Tage Thompson is the biggest reason the Eichel trade looks the way it does.

Tuch wouldn’t be as good or productive and this team would still be searching for a top 6 center.

Thompson being a 1C the moment Eichel left softened the blow for Krebs being wildly disappointing so far

You don’t go into your season not replacing Quinn and having Levi/UPL as your goalie tandem if playoffs are the expectation.

They aren’t for the team.

They are always selling a next year plan

Wingers without term aren't getting good value, no question.

When you're forced to move a #2 OA for that little value, it sucks, but you did it to yourself.

Thompson got hurt and Tuch still put up a PPG.

Tuch is one of the best 200 foot wingers in the game today.

Like wtf are we even doing here.

The grades on a trade are constantly changing. The ROR trade was terrible for a long time, now it looks great. Krebs just spend his first full season in the NHL and I think he still has promise as being at least a 4C. Even if the future part of this doesn't work out, it was still a very good trade considering the circumstances. As desperate as teams are for a 1C, they wouldn't pay the price because of the medical issue.

The two aren't related. If we didn't have Thompson then we would absolutely need to go out and get a 1C (thus filling a hole). We weren't getting a 1C back in the Eichel trade, of course.

Tuch gets hurt and the Tage and Skinner pairing get vastly outscored at 5v5.

Thompson gets hurt, they elevate Mittelstadt and the guy goes off for 17 points in 11 games to end the year.

But yes Tuch is just a product of Thompson.

The lengths people go to diminish Adams is complete lunacy

A guy is whoever he is at age 25. His draft position has nothing to do with it. On a good team, Sam is a 2nd line winger. Given that is who he is and had 1 year left, we got good value for him.

Some really stanky takes today...

Im more skeptical of Tage being away form Skinner and Tuch than I am of the other 2 without Tage... as you already said. Tuch and Skinner both produced without Tage. Tage's #'s took a dip away form the top line (he was injured though)

Yeah this wasn’t said. Tuch is an excellent player.

But over the course of a season Tuch wouldn’t be as productive without Thompson vs Mittelstadt

Sabres look to have a bright future, the prospect pool is brimming with Talent. But in reality until they hit the ice for the Sabres that's all they are is Talented Prospects and the Sabres have a good young Core in place in the NHL. There is nothing wrong with what the Sabres are doing and growing internally. But there is nothing wrong with wanting your team to use that Surplus of prospects to want to improve your team for today, especially when it's the same improvements that have been needed for 3yrs.

No not with Levi in the wings. if we did not have Levi, then yes I would do that deal.

I think you can get Saros for 1st, 2nd, UPL, Kulich and another prospect if needed. Overpay but 2 first is not going to happen, it never or very rarely happens where any player gets multiple first.

- hehateme

I think you probably could with that package, I'm just surprised you're willing to give up so much for two years of a quality tender, no matter who we have in the stable.
