Prediction: the contract will be brought up in here any time he has a bad game.

The more I've sat with it, the more I am okay with the Jarry contract.

Hellebuyck was the only "realistic" obviously better option... but with the assets and money it would take to get him, the roster would have suffered and wouldnt be able to contend anyway.

Only complaint is that I wish we had a more solid 1B type goalie. Best option is to hedge your bets with goaltending and hope one of them is hot at the right time.

Yeah, I said a few times here I wanted Jarry back but didnt want to give him more than 4 mill per...he ended up getting 1.35 more than that...big whoop...life goes on, sleep will not be lost....

Helly is a healthier option than Jarry historically but the knock on him is he’s just average come playoff time.

A healthy Jarry has played at the level that would be worth this contract. Just gotta pray and hope that the nagging lower body injuries are in the past because what’s done is done.

It's true...history has shown when he stays healthy for a while he goes elite...but when he comes back from long layoffs he can take a while to get good again...history has also shown he has a lot of layoffs haha

I'm with Mattstrat on this one. Jarry's contract is a bit higher than I expected but we won't lose any sleep over it.

Focus on moving on from Granlund, Petry, Carter and Rutta (if the opportunity arises).

Any guesses on how much the cap is going up the next year or two? Usually there are estimates someplace but I forget where. Starting to think this was a deal for Jarry's market value in 2 twos factoring a higher cap, not for Jarry today.

A lot of people think it will see a big increase like $5m or so but league revenues are not great. So it may only go up another $1-2m

Elite goaltenders are now going after 9m paydays. At this years cap structure maybe he’s a 4.5m goaltender but with the cap rise coming he got upto 5m. For a starting goaltender 5m is pretty damn good. IF he can stay healthy he is already a 2x all star on a team that’s never been a defensive stalwart. Turning dumo into graves and focusing on a defensive minded bottom 6 will also have a positive impact of Jarry and CDs’ numbers. So if he is truly passed this injury this could be a good contract.

That being said I would like a CDs upgrade, not someone to challenge Casey.

Edit - my guess is $3-4m cap jump

Should have been 1 yr 2.5. Anything more is a disaster.

You guys are still obsessed with Carter. I’m hoping he has a bounce back season and Sid convinced him to sign another deal.

Sid should try to get Craig Adam’s, Billy G and Matt Cullen to come out of retirement too.

He also plays behind a team that allows Brad Marchand to slash him in his face.

He's the 13th highest paid goalie on average annual value and that will only drop during the next 5 years. I think he's easily capabale of being one of the top 15 goalies in the league. If so, it's a fair deal and that's that.

You can’t just ignore the injury risk though. The deal is very boom or bust. Maybe you get an elite goalie at a discount locked up for his prime. Maybe the injuries never go away and you have a glorified backup being paid like a starter on a multi year albatross. I think there’s arguments to be made that this was a necessary risk given the options but there’s still a lot to be squeamish about especially given the depth chart behind him. Really need Blomqvist to develop fast.

I would have liked less years, less $ or both. Maybe $4.5X4? But its done now. They did give him a limited NTC. 12 teams each season.

It is what it is. Time to focus on moving on from Rutta, Granlund, Carter, and Petry. With Eller talking about how the pens anticipate him being the 3rd line center I would think they don't have Granlund in their plans next year and are waiting on EK to move him.
