Took the REM for the first time thir morning.

I still have no idea where I was supposed to pay before getting into the train but, here I am.

The REM isn't supposed to be a well thought out thing

Billions for south shore banlieusards...

meanwhile up north, it takes us 2 hours to do 55kms to reach MTL... entering MTL takes another hour

I mean... I expected a gate at some point where I'd tap in my opus card.

THERE WAS NO GATE.

Oh and when you get in the Brossard station, you have to go down a set of stairs and immediately go up another set of stairs.

People in wheelchairs have to take TWO elevators to get to the train.

I'm not an expert but... that doesn't scream optimal design.

Read somewhere it took someone like 35 minutes or so to go in with those express buses, but with those bus routes removed, now takes them over and hour to get to work.

Well planned.

I just laughed at those that went this week-end and waited hours to reach Brossard...only to realize that they needed to turn around and come back since Brossard is meh.

They shut down our line for 4 years and give crappy hourly bus service as a replacement. The bridge between the north shore and laval, which is less than 2 years old, already has a crack in it.

Winter 2024.... ya right

Well one station drops you in the middle of the quartier dix-30. Which is fine.

If you go all the way to the Brossard station (end of the line), it's just a big parking.

Would've loved a REM that reaches Saint-Jerome or even Saint-Sauveur. That would've greatly improved the 15 traffic

I'll have to time it better but it didn't feel like I got to work faster this morning.

And there was nothing to slow me down either.

Can't wait to see how this all works in the winter or any amount of snow / freezing rain.

Gonna be awesome!

That would make sense... but According to those in power, those north of laval are all farmers who have no use for montreal.

The 13 never got finished

Still lots of "work" to be done to make it happen.

I'm working on 2 different visas.

1 of them is digital nomad where I get to keep my job in Canada (up to 3years) and eventually apply for residency.

the other one is a job offer that will only be "official" next summer. That visa is a fast track to many things but the job is located in Barcelona and I'm really aiming for the Malaga region.

Selling my house 800k here and we can buy a realllllly nice decent house (15mins walking distance from the beach) for like 250/300k. Cost of living is crazy low compared to here. Let's not talk about the climate...that's a game changer!
