It's been a little better with Karlsson and now Tatar watch. 3 more weeks until the excitement of who wins the sixth defenseman and every bottom six job. |

We've been lucky this year, getting Karlsson at the beginning of August gave us a lot than what usually happens. |

The funny thing about Hextall is that he did all of the hard things okay, it's the easy stuff he just made a complete mess of. |

I'd like to see it. But someone pointed out they might need another PKer on the right side defense unless one of the lefties can play his offside. That might give Ruhwedel an edge. I'm assuming Karlsson and Smith aren't great options and at this point Letang shouldn't play top pair either. |

I kind of feel that one of POJ or Smith gets moved. Also wonder if the bottom pair RD is even on the roster right now. I've supported Ruh in the past, but I wish we had another option. No question in my mind Sully will give Ruhwedel the job if Smith is the alternative. |

I thought Letang would be out there killing more penalties due to Karlsson being the top PP guy now. |

Do we not like Friedman as an option for the third pair? |

Yeah between Smith, Ruhwedel, and Friedman we are fine. One of those guys will form a fine bottom pairing with POJ. The yearly brain worm of trying to upgrade our bottom RD that keeps infecting our GMs has lead to some of our worst moves. Just let the minimum contracts hash it out. |

If Sullivan let’s him play his game I believe he’s and asset. |

Before sure and I could still see swapping one for a forward, but if that doesn't emerge as an option it's good having both. Smith provides some needed insurance behind Letang and Karlsson. And I do think POJ is a top four waiting to happen if they decide to shed Pettersson down the road. |

He will, but he didn't have to kill much at all last year with Petry and Ruuta. I'm ok with Letang as the second guy, but I'd prefer not to use him as the first guy who sometimes gets 2 shifts on a PK now.
And he's just one. Can EK or Smith kill penalties? If a lefty can slide over they're fine though, comfortable with all three of Graves, Pettersson, and POJ. |

I'd be fine with him over Ruhwedel, but clearly Sully isn't. Smith maybe because he did play him a lot when he was up. Still think Smith beats POJ if only one plays, and I like both. |

I think someone like Ilya lyubushkin would have been perfect for our 3rd pair. |

But that’s exactly what I’m talking about. Dude makes like $3 mil. We just got rid of Ruuta. Why continue to revisit the #5 d man making second pairing money thing when it hasn’t worked out once and we’ve had to dump him every single time. Johnson. Gudbranson. Ruuta. No more of this, please. |

Why? Because he’s more expensive and worse than Ruhwedel? |

He just can't control himself. Whether it's risky plays or getting out of position or taking a penalty his pros are always outweighed by the cons. Serviceable is spots, but not a regular. |

I mean with as little as the third pair would play I think it be ok. But yea I'm not talking all 82 games by any stretch. |

Yea I'm not sure about Graves playing the right side, don't think Petterson does and I can't recall if POJ does. |

Yea haha, we finally have a cheap (frank)ing 3rd pair, Dubas will keep it that way. |
