Thanks Zach. Of the forward group, only Bedard and Reichel are worth watching their development. Everyone else is just a placeholder. This season will be all about the young defensemen stepping up their games to the next level. I'm not worried about scoring goals this season, it's all about how the defense plays and hoping they take off the clown shoes. |

ESPN dropped a piece on Tuesday titled “NHL Future Power Rankings: Prospect, cap, roster predictions.”
These rankings consider how teams are set up for success this season as well as the next three seasons. We had a panel of writers and editors rate each team in four categories — roster (with an emphasis on players 26 and under); prospects; cap situation and contracts; and front office, ownership and coaching.
They ranked the Blackhawks 18th in the NHL. The Blackhawks ranked first overall in prospects and second overall in cap/contracts, but ESPN ranked the Blackhawks’ current roster 31st in the league and the Blackhawks’ owner/GM/coach ranked just 27th. |

Someday ESPN might understand hockey, but today is not that day. |

I saw that, but the thing I took most from that is that we ranked first overall prospects and that we are not stuck with any bad contracts (except for maybe Seth Jones).
Getting ranked 27th in owner/GM/coach is also probably just because the owner is brand new and the coach/GM have only been around a year. So far so good for those guys if you ask me though and I can't imagine that there are really 26 better coaches/owners/GMs out there |

How did our GM change our prospect pool from nearly last to 1st and get a ranking of 27th - maybe they were thinking about the Sox or Bears?

The only thing good about ESPN is that it only costs me $10/month to watch hockey, other than that, you can keep it. |

I have to agree with you here PE. As Zach wrote, the top 12 are:
~Taylor Hall Connor Bedard Ryan Donato
~Philipp Kurashev Lukas Reichel Andreas Athanasiou
~Tyler Johnson Cole Guttman Taylor Raddysh
~Nick Foligno Jason Richardinson Corey Perry
with Blackwell, R. Johnson, Katchouk and Entwistle on the bubble as of now.
From that group, in three years who will be here besides Bedard and Reichel? I can see Raddysh being extended, maybe Guttman and Kurashev if they show something the next two seasons. Most of the others will be long gone. I doubt if Hall is part of the furture. In two years at 34 he's due to fall off the cliff. I wouldn't extend him for big money.
So let's call it 4 of the above. Still need 8-9 forwards. Nazar, Moore, Dach, & Hayes lead the list with Kantserov, Misiak, Ludwinski, Greene, Marcel, and Lardis in the running. Also in 2-3 years this lineup will need a few veterans (Donato, D!ckinson, Foligno types) obtained via trade or free agency. Can't have a lineup of mostly 22-23 year olds. |

I like your analysis - the only one i wouldnt consider is Kurashev - so far he has not shown me enough to consider him a Long Term option - now maybe they signed him to flip for an asset? he just doesnt feel like part of a longer term core - what do I know though....

Although I agree that he hasn’t shown anything so far, and the Dom Lucyszyn write up on him was particularly damning… I still hold out hope for him. He had flashes of brilliance at the WJC years ago, and I just worry he turns into another Forsling type who blossoms on another team. Luckily the Blackhawks don’t pay me and my hunches for advice. |

So a bubble playoff team in 3 years? Sounds about right. 23-24 - bottom 7, 24-25 bottom 12, 25-26 bubble team, 26-27 playoff team, 27-28 cup contender.

I think Kurashev is slightly overrated. I think he is a 3rd liner.
My dark horse to make the team is Joey Anderson. He might not make the team on day 1, but he could be the first one recalled if there is an injury or someone performing poorly. |

i think that TAMPA has a real chance of not making the playoffs this year - imagine that pick |

Joey Anderson
Whenever I hear his name, I think he is someone's kid brother and not an NHL player. If he was Joseph, Joel or Joe, definitely gonna stick in the lineup. Nobody would mess with Joe Anderson. Joey Anderson just better not go in my room and touch my Lego.
