Abysmal Torts special teams. - THE EVIL WITHIN

Do you mean Jack Adams-worthy Torts hasn't fixed the issue???
I am shocked - a coach who should have been in the running for the coach of the year should be able to get a PP in shape after 80 plus games

Don’t think they actually have a player in the lineup tonight who would normally be on the pp in the regular season. |

It's not just a lack of skill and finish on the Flyers, it's also a complete lack of imagination with the puck. Just the same old predictable offensive patterns that are easy to see and defend. You would think with 3 PPs and 26 shots the Flyers would get a least a few high danger chances never mind a goal, especially against a backup goalie and rookies on the other side, but not these Flyers! Its concerning. |

Instead of the stupid rope Torts brought on the ice the first day of camp, he should have hung up shooter tutors. This is pathetic. |

Other than a couple of decent chances for Attard I don’t think I’ve seen a quality shot by a Flyer all night. |

TK= 2 1st round picks +some or 1st round pick 2nd round pick and a high end prospect. - Flyerloon

No Frost tonight? Did Torts relegate him to the press box already? So some guy named Brendan Furry gets more ice time than Wade Allison? Eh what? |
|
|
|
Thank you, Poehling, for scoring and welcome to the Flyers! We clearly need you.
Who comes up with these preseason defensive pairings??? It’s just preseason, I know, but how about Attard with Staal or Andrae with Seeler? York with Risto, Ginning with Sanheim…
Has Zamula been in a game yet? |

Frost will be in the A To start the season if Torts has his way. Joking aside, early preseason games they’re looking at all kinds of the borderline players. I don’t expect anything close to a real lineup until later on. And it still won’t matter. We don’t have a legit 1 or 2 dman at all so this year will be a debacle. We’ll be lucky to ever get out of the zone or have any entries on the pp without anyone able to move the puck up ice. |

They don’t have a top d-pairing, sure, but it would be nice to see examples of what they might do. Surely aren’t putting their best foot forward with the group as paired in these two games.

I don't really care about preseason although it signals the fact that this team lacks organizational depth as they have for a looooooog time. However, if Coots and Atkinson go down early (Hell, Atkinson already is down) this team certainly has the chance to finish dead last in the league. Regardless of health I think it is damn near a guarantee that they will finish last in the eastern conference. I mean, who in the east will finish behind them with the possible exception of the Habs? |

Luv how people are overreacting.
The islanders had a few more vets playing tonight, juat some scrubs like horvat and barzal. They also had a poopty goalie in net as well.
Flyers had their 4th line, laughts and cates. They also have their 13th forward playing tonight, Allison.
I will reserve judgment until the flyers start most of the starters. |

There’s no Lindros on the Flyers now, but Jones wants the Flyers to play hard-nosed hockey, the kind that is appreciated in Philadelphia.
“Even when the Flyers were starting to build back around Lindros, it was always a difficult team to play against,” Jones said.
----------------------------
The "difficult to play against" phrase has been used so often it has lost all meaning, almost as much as "200 ft player". I feel it is used as a last resort because the Flyers as a team has little redeeming value. Does he want a fast team, a great transition team, an innovative team coached by an innovative coach?
Apparently, the answer to all of the above is NO. If he did he'd talk about those attributes. Instead he loves to talk about 90's hockey and the Lindros era.
Well much like the 70s bullies, the 90s aren't coming back either. You know who was "difficult to play against" in that era? The dead puck era. The Devils. Scott Stevens actively looking for players with their heads down to lay them out. One of the "hardest to play against" players of the era responsible for who knows how many injuries.
The NHL changed the rules for player safety and goal scoring since that time so the era that Jonesy longs for will never come back.
The Flyers just aren't going to out grind out a 100 point season without talent and coaching no matter how much Jonesy keeps repeating it.

My comment was strictly based on what this roster will look like come October 12th (or whenever the regular season starts). I didn't see either preseason game and don't really care. I just look at this roster and cringe, especially if Coots and Atkinson are removed again. The one concern I have about the preseason games is that it seems none of the young guys are standing out based on the comments of people that are watching the games. That to me is a legit concern. |

Yes, physicality is still a big part of the game especially come playoff time, but it's more about transition and puck possession now. You need speed and guys that can carry the puck for that, and the Flyers have neither. Yikes!

Difficult to play against? Lol.
Connor McDavid is difficult to play against. Cale Makar is difficult to play against. Vasilevskiy is difficult to play against.
Meanwhile everybody licks their chops when Marc Staal, ND and Ryan Poehling hit the ice.
Flyers will never stop deluding themselves and their troglodyte fanbase, no matter which era of orange it is. |
