Timmins with lower body injury. Getting MRI today. No update on Klingberg.

The D seems just as fragile as last year…. Gio with big minutes again? Yikes.

As long as Gio gets games off I’m not too worried. Let’s see what Benoit can do.

They have nobody to step in currently.

Rielly Brodie
McCann Liljegren
Gio Benoit

That’s the current leafs’ D with Klingberg and Timmins hurt.

The little bit of Knies I saw last year was sufficient to convince me that he has a future as a full-time NHL'er, bottom six at worst, top six at best.

Love the Leafs forward group - solid mix there.

Defence - 2 dmen shy of it being solid.

Goaltending - questions all day. No clue but don’t think Sammy is a legit NHL starter yet (or will be).

Agree. Gio is a great mentor and PK guy, but best reserved for sheltered or limited minutes.

So, what's the deal with Muzzin? Is he ever coming back, or is he the new Robidas?

He’s also a right side guy while Gio is a left. I guess they can use Benoit as the 7th guy who slips in for Gio tho, so long as nobody else gets hurt. One way or another they’re on the cusp of needing the old guy to be a full timer like last year again.

The sooner the better. If they want to run with a 40 year old they shouldn’t rely on someone like Timmins who gets hurt often.

As of now, the number 7 guy might be out for a bit. Might.

The big questions are whether Liljegren can move his game to the next level and whether Klingberg can do defensive type things.

My main hope for their D this year is that Brodie and McCabe stay healthy. Lose one of them and it will hurt the leafs defensive skill set notably.

Peeke would be a monster addition for the buds for those reasons

They are picking off Ryu.

Edit.
Ryu got lucky there, only 1 run scored.

Ya man for sure - when you look at it that way I’d say Peeke is more valuable to the roster than:

Jarnkrok - cheaper Gregor can replace.

Lily - super soft, not close to as good in the defensive/physical side.

I like Brodie defensively but maybe moving him at 5M for a guy that can play bottom (with Peeke on 1st pair) that plays a Schenn like game at cheap would work. I’d only move Brodie in addition to the guys above if there was a solid dependable defensive first bottom guy to throw on mix.

He’s a bit of question mark though - I was thinking more along the lines of proven cheaper no offence only defence type guy who’s a regular.

There’s only 21 teams they can move Brodie to and the primary fact is he is currently their primary defensive D man so moving him is a mistake unless he’s getting replaced with a top pairing right side guy.

Liljegren is one of the affordable D, so it would be foolish to let him go when the leafs are under a massive cap crunch.

As for Jarnkrok good luck finding a home for a $2.1 million 4th line winger who also has a M-NTC.
