Sadly, I still don’t think the Leafs have that burning desire to win games.

No killer instinct.

You may not be wrong but let's wait and see this group play when the games aren't completely meaningless for most of them.

Don't like to ever read to much into anything (positive or negative) in the pre-season.

His mother turned him in. My grandson doesn't know him.

Still no info about why he had the gun.

I just thought his school had better security than that. I guess this school needs metal detectors at the entrances, like a prison or courthouse or airport.

So it doesn’t matter if it was preseason.

Teams that win it all have a certain mindset. They hate losing. The Leafs seem okay with it.

If he brought it to feel tough or impress his friends, that's bad enough.

If he brought it to shoot somebody, that's worse.

I won't get into the politics swirling around the issue. Suffice to say, my views on overall gun ownership are nuanced and neither full left or right. Having said that, in cases like this, I think the parents should have some hard questions to answer or face charges along with the kid.

If I was baked I'd get so paranoid knowing I had a hidden gun. But maybe I'm just not as used to it because you can't carry at all in public here so it's not as normalized. Even though I grew up around tons of guns I never got used to it, and I don't have them around now. Glad nothing came of this (frank)ed up incident.

You're talking to a Canadian who owns guns, joking aside, it's on the parents. I feel bad for the kid, looks like he was let down and made his own bad decisions. Just another wheel in the cog. Hopefully this is a turning point and not a hammering home of a future serial criminal

I don't think anyone goes out there wanting to lose, but in the preseason if you have a job all lined up already, you're not going at 100% - there's little sense in getting injured in a warm-up game. I mean I didn't watch it with the most discerning of eyes, but the guys you wanted to see more from largely did a decent job of showing up - Domi, Robertson, Noah Gregor was excellent, Lafferty, Liljegren . . . Knies had his moments, but I thought he struggled defensively a bit yesterday. The guys who I didn't think had a great game were Samsonov, Reaves, Benoit, Kokkonen - and I thought Brodie struggled, too.

I think Bertuzzi has been invisible in camp so far, but maybe give him a bit of time to gel with Marner and Matthews. He's played with Larkin, Raymond, Mantha and Fabbri over the past few years. Boston had him with Pasta. The guy can play with talent.

If they show up with the same lack of pace on the 11th, I'm wholly willing to entertain your complaints!

I didn't learn the full details until it hit the local news at 11pm. He was a little unnerved as well, but it seemed to bother me more than him. Regardless of one's views on owning firearms in principle, it shouldn't be this easy to sneak a gun into a school, especially in a state that has had past issues with high profile school shootings. But, here we are.

Ok, back to hockey. Congrats on the OT win last night. I never thought I would say this, but the Leafs have a better situation in the crease than the Lightning do.

Leafs should be releasing some players soon as pre-season draws to a close.

It was actually an OT loss, but it's meaningless either way.

Tampa will be okay, unless Vasi's injury is one of those ongoing, recurring back issues. They can probably stay in a playoff spot for two months with a random carbon blob in net until he gets back.
