You save just as much by replacing Timmins with Benoit as you do replacing Lafferty. If I had to choose, I’d keep Lafferty.

It's not an either or ....if you waive Lafferty and replace him with Nickie you save enough to carry Benoit as the 7th. That's with Timmie on the LTIR.

If you keep Lafferty and the other predictable forwards (12F) then you cannot carry Benoit ..even with Timmy on the LTIR. They'd be $150k short.

feels strange, but I am glad non of the games are at home

Road and day game stats ....favour the Jays. Jays were actually one of the better "day game" hitting teams.

We can roll with that!

Question :

Do any of the Leafs forwards have any experience with covering D if required? If you need a forward to cover an injury on the blue line, who is that guy for the Leafs?

Not that I know of. If I had to send a forward to D it would probably be reeves and hope he looks like big buff out there.

You mean you don't have to sign star forwards for 10M+ that slide them into UFA on their post-ELC contracts?!

Marner can do it but how effective he'll be well, time will tell.

Term being used very loosely here, eh?

I love Marner, but no player since Federov has been able to do it. It's a stupid premise. Players these days are trained and conditioned so well to their roles that the days of weird position shifting (centre/winger excluded) is over.

Yes just far more likely that it sets up a Suban, Meier, Tkachuk, etc.... scenario this way.

He'll still be an RFA after his deal is done, with year to be a UFA.

You're gonna depend on Robertson? No thanks.
Keep Lafferty imo.

That’s seems to be the year that they inform their teams that they won’t be signing long term, hence forcing a trade.

Robertson is still wire exempt so he will start with the Marlie because of that.
The same for Holmberg

That's possible ....Lafferty out and replaced by Robertson or Holmberg would save enough.

I kinda like Lafferty though. Our PK gets pretty thin without him.

- The Law

I like him too, but I’ll be honest using Gio means the leafs need a 7th d man, so the question is there a forward who can handle the extra minutes… with Matthews, Marner, and Nylander I wouldn’t be shocked to see them run with 11 forwards.

Let’s see if they get to game 1 with no one else hurt I guess, that could shape the decision for sure.

I’m guessing it won’t be Robertson it would be Gambrell taking over that role.

Bertuzzi Matthews Marner
Knies JT Jarnkrok
Holmberg Nylander Domi
Gambrell Kampf Reaves

Rielly Brodie
McCabe Klingberg
Gio Liljegren
Benoit

Samsonov
Woll

That lineup leaves the leafs about $200K under the cap limit.
