I keep seeing articles about how the Islanders should go after Shane Pinto. Outside of being a young NHL player. His numbers do not jump out at me.
What am I missing? Can someone enlighten me as what the draw would be here? |

20 goals and 35 pts is pretty good for a young kid with only 17 games of NHL experience prior to last season. He may not be a future superstar but he could probably be a good second line player. The Isles are not ripe with talented young players.
Irrelevant though, because they don't have the assets to acquire him or the cap space to fit him. Unless they're sending back probably around $5M-ish in salary to Ottawa in the deal. It's not happening, I think a large part of the reason people are talking about it is because he is from LI. |

Jake Muzzin retires...
Don't the Leaf's loose his LTIR status for cap relief? Or did the Leaf's find another loop hole in the system. I am not to clear on this. |

If contract was signed before he turns 35 then there is no penalty I believe
But does make you question why retire when you would get that money being in LTIR unless it's under the table |

He's probably somewhat comparable to Beauvillier, in terms of what his value is/could be to a team. |

Did he actually formally "retire" or did he just effectively say he's never going to play again? If it's the latter, and I suspect it is, he'll get his money and the Leafs can stash him on LTIR. I have a hard time believing he's just going to pass up on $4M to take a scouting job making less than 10% of that. |

Well he’s now a scout for the Leafs so they are probably paying him north of 4 million to get him to agree to get his salary off the books. Bastards. |

I'm not so sure they wouldn't rather pay it to him and keep him on the books so they can use his LTIR relief honestly |

Yeah I guess that may have been an option unless he may have been capable of playing at some point and they didn’t want to deal with that? 🤷♂️
I know players continue their careers with their clubs in some capacity sometimes but it seems fishy. Or maybe it’s not and it’s the conspiracy theorist in me. I have no (frank)ing idea. |

While I don't think there's rampant misuse of LTIR, I have to imagine that concussions would probably be the easiest to milk. No matter what a CT and/or whatever other tests they run say you can pretty much always say "well I'm still suffering from the effects". It'd be a pretty bad look for the league to force teams to kinda push guys to play.
Could also just be Toronto offering a guy whose playing days are over a chance to stay in hockey and climb the ladder organizationally. |

That’s most likely what it is.
There was a bit of sarcasm in both of my posts with a pinch of I don’t trust anyone especially the Leafs. |

Yeah I can't recall a single time I ever saw him take a clear-cut victory in the last few seasons. He's like the Scott Mayfield of forwards. |

Yeah he turned out to be a disappointment in the end. We got duped early on when he was pummeling little guys lol. Once he started going with fellow heavies it was a different story and not in a good way. Never the same after Frankenstein on the Flyers dropped him 🤣 |

Not technically accurate. Holmstrom is still "in Bridgeport", on paper. Once they call him back up the cap space should go to $525,042 |
