And finally, the bubble, which should have burst a while ago, finally pops against a bad team with a depleted secondary
Better batten the hatches folks. It is going to GET UGLY in the next few weeks. |

Did you think they were going to go 16-0? Did San Francisco's bubble burst today also after you already awarded the Super Bowl to them? Depleted secondary or no, you have to protect the QB. The offensive line was crap and they turned the ball over 4 times. Won't win many games with that. They will correct that.

By no means are the eagles a bad team but SF body of work this season is significantly better than the eagles |

Offense has weapons at every level, and they are all better than the eagles. You could say hurts is better than Purdy but Purdy doesnt have to do as much. Eagles have squeaked by, caught up to them today. SF had a bad game, big difference |

The Eagles offense doesn't have weapons at every level? A.J Brown is one of the top wide receivers in football. Then you have Smith, Goedert and Swift. One of the best offensive lines in football (not today) and one of the best D lines in football. They have some issues, Hurts is not as good as last year, red zone offense, turnovers differential. The Eagles definitely had a bad game. I understand the point that the Eagles haven't been blowing teams away and the schedule gets tougher. The Eagles can be better. It's just a question of if they will.

I’m not arguing the eagles don’t have a good team, I’m stating that SF is clearly better through 6 games |

SF just lost to a team that was 2-2 coming into today. It's a long season.

The announcers are not "instructed" about who/what to talk about. But they base a lot of their on-air stuff on their exclusive prep time with the head coach and his narratives filter largely into their narratives (hardly unusual in sports and far from being just a Flyers thing). Torts openly loves that Deslauriers-Poehling-Hathaway line, won't break them up willingly, and so far uses them to start periods and skate more shifts than your average 4th line. He talks them up to all of the media and that includes the broadcasters. As such, it becomes a major part of the narrative. My own view is to dial it down a bit with all the "PHD Line" stuff -- they aren't going to win you or lose you games if deployed as a typical 4th line and not as some "super 4th line" -- but it is what it is. - bmeltzer

1) Foerster and Brink have their own flaws, too. Neither is an "elite" player but yet neither belongs on a 4th line, either. So what winger in the top nine are you taking out? Putting Laughton at LW4 and sitting Deslauriers isn't on the table right now, although I actually think a Laughton-Poeling-Hathaway regular 4th line would be pretty damn good and allow you to get both Foerster and Brink into the top nine. But I don't get a vote.
2) "Play the kids" isn't a panacea during a rebuild. Remember in 2006-07? How much did the NHL time for then well-regarded but clearly over their heads prospects such as Picard and Ruzicka do for them? It served to hurt them more than help. Not saying that will happen to Brink/Foerster or Andrae/Zamula but you can't force it. They're ready or they're not ready. rebuild or not. - bmeltzer
At the same time you have to trust that the coach will "play the kids" if they are not in over their heads and not "overcook" them. Torts loves his vets. The problem is the Flyers never had a problem sitting young players until they have absolutely no choice but to play the youngsters which has less to do with development and more to do with the win now mentality.
Torts would rather win 5 more games this year with vets than the Flyers win more long term with kids.

The united front presented when Hilferty came on board with Camillo there and then she wasn’t was kind of sketchy. - Minnyhock
Has anyone heard what caused Camillo to leave? She was a big part of the media blitz and was presented as a piece of the long term future and then shortly after her out of blue hiring of Jones she quit.
