Ya, I was just thinking that thye hope he goes on a hot streak to trade him, I think its doable wit salary retained ?
- Xizord

I don't think they are trading him this year, maybe next year when he will on the last year of his contract.

Candidates for a trade with salary retention

David Savard (1 more year at 3.5M cap hit, salary for next year after July 1st (500K signing bonus and his pay will be 2.3M), easier to move him starting next summer
Jake Allen (1 more year 3.85M cap hit, 1M signing bonus on July 1st 2024, actual salary will be 2.3M next season)
B.Gallagher (3 more years at 6.5M cap hit left after this year, his actual salary is much worse)
J.Armia (one year left after this season, 3.5M cap hit, actual salary is 4.8M this season and 3.8M next year)
Monahan, UFA next summer, salary is 1.985M, should not need to retain salary

I would try to move Gallagher and retain a % of his contract. Buyout would double the cap hit period, makes no sense. Trade him with salary retention, in 3yrs he is off the books.

they only have 1 spot left for retaining salary. they'll be carefull to use it wisely

Isn't that what Ottawa was saying three years ago and now one was waived, another an AHLer and the third defense prospect in a garbage bin?
- AdamFrench

I said knocking on the door, maybe all 3 will need time in the AHL

Agreed and I think moving Gally would make the most sense long term.

It's also the hardest contract to move though...

hence why salary retention will be a must if they have a chance to move him.

Yes but that's because Ottawa sucked, currently sucks and will suck forever.
- Scabeh

True. Hopefully Reinbacher is your Sanderson and Guhle Chabot.

(different style of players I know, but same concept).

even with 50% retained... pretty difficult to imagine a team ready to take him.
would you? I sure would not.
Habs would need to retain 50% AND give a few picks

nobody is taking that contract, Habs for life. Which is fine

If he really cant play anymore, he most likely ends up on LTIR.

But if they manage his minutes properly, you might see more goals like saturday night.

He stil has the will

I really dont mind him on the team with a lesser role, as long as they dont need the cap

They also have a negative goal differential.

Straight out.

I waited way too long for my defensemen and they were not ranked properly. They should do ok, at best.

Feel way better with my forwards.

Goalies are a big ?

you did well, maybe without knowing. the way the pool was set up, dmen are not worth much (compared to goalies and centers)

They will use it at the trade deadline on an expiring contract that they help move along to another team.

No. Before him. He was only on for like 6 months before Melnyk died and Pierre killed his Melnyk to him handler.
