I used to like the idea of Tanev but don't know anymore. Last RAPM graph I have is from 19-20 when I cut the membership and he was negative in every metric outside GF/60 on PP (which he played only a few minutes of). Is he an upgrade?

play it out. As a UFA winger, his cost is probably Sabres cond 1st and a mid prospect, maybe throw Void in there if you get lucky.

Next, Sabres have 25M in cap space next season. Let's put Mitts at 6, 4th line at 6, ryan johnson as 1, krebs at 1, nylander at 8.5, joker at 3.5. Puts you like a mil over, with coming extensions to quinn, peterka, levi and signing upl or someone else.

Sabres aren't renting that caliber of player unless they're fighting for the division lead.

You're trading a winger to keep him. Move doesn't make logistical sense. It's hard to even make work for next year unless you're trading JJ or JQ. Even then it's a challenge. Trading Casey here doesn't make sense at all.

Think this team is better served looking at redoing the bottom 6, primarily the bottom 3.
