He did, I'll give him credit. Frost was downright dazzling in the 3rd period. BUT .. if Frost is going to be a viable center in the NHL he has got to improve his FO%. You can practice faceoffs every day, whether you are in the lineup or not. Frost just is not improving in this area. - jd250
Frost was 45 percent last year (not good, not horrid) and over 50 percent after the All-Star break. Last night, he was matched up against Jordan Staal, who is one of the best of the best in the NHL at faceoffs for the last 15-plus years. Staal also has a huge leverage advantage, standing six inches taller and having a 30-plus pound weight advantage.
But yes, Frost does need to be more consistent on draws. We'll see how he fares the next two games against Buffalo. He did have a 9-for-11 game this preseason matched mostly against Boston's Charlie Coyle. |

Bill, thoughts on Foerester so far. I actually thought he was more involved last night but overall he’s been very pedestrian |

Foerster was a lot better last night. It's coming. He's been just OK from camp onward but he had three good scoring chances last night and a couple in the immediately preceding two games. |

He was better last night. Keep playing him. Let him work through it and continue to grow. Keeping him up in the NHL will be better for his development then sending him back to the AHL.

I think one going in the net for him would go a long way, hopefully moving forward he’s more like last night |

Yea, he doesn’t look lost, he’s just been a bit underwhelming. I liked his game last night |

already 195, he could add 3-5 but not sure that will be a big difference - wcorvette
No way!? Is he really 195? I assumed he was much smaller for some reason.
I guess since they make these things called bios and stats I could have read it and saw how much he weighed 🤔😅
Well nvm then!
Thanks for the info |

Also, of that happened I am sure torts would have noticed frost. He doesn't notice the good things frost does but he sure does remember every mistake he makes.
Good things torts isn't biased at all |

I still wonder if DB and Torts are on the same page or if Torts is running the show and DB with his 0 years of NHL front office experience is being a good soldier. - Flyers_01
Highly unlikely. You don't "rebuild" with Torts. |

How much does leverage matter? I get some but Claude is not a huge man, yet he dominates. Patrice b as well. Yes bigger than g but not a big center. |

Coots didn't crack 50% FOs until his 6th season.
FO's are equal parts skill and equal parts developing relationships with and earning leeway from the linemen to cheat. - Tomahawk
Very good point. Crosby struggled with them too early than opening night he's killing Bedard on em.
Those cagey vets definitely have a cheat code. |

Cates never played center in his life before last season. What's Frost's excuse? The entire team was bad on faceoffs last night, but overall I see Cates improving as a center, but I don't see Frost improving in this one key area. - jd250
Oh. I don’t know but he probably played center in squirts, peewees and bantams. I know he was playing center in high school. He played LW his first 2 years at UMD and center the last 2.
I think Cates gets more grace than Frost because Torts views him the same way his college coach did. He’s a glue guy.

Why are we concerned about Frost's ability to take faceoffs at this stage of his career? Especially, after sitting 6 or 7 games. I was at the game last night and sat up high watching him. he looked like anyone would look in the first period and a half and then by the 3rd was playing exactly the way we need him to. Last night in general was fine. Great goaltending. We just did not bury our chances. I can't imagine anyone watching last night and thinking Frost doesnt play the next game. The only other players on this roster that can create like him are selke and brink.

He actually played a little center in college when there were some injuries, but not a ton. |

Coach Sandelin made him Captain and he was the 1st line center his junior year. The adjustment was rough on him as he had only 5 goals. Cates was much better at center his senior year.

That was one guy who wanted to deflect from what led to the Canes GWG, and also from the fact that Torts played Ryan Poehling for six straight games over Morgan Frost.
Hopefully once Foerster gets one goal, he'll get a bunch. Couldn't elevate a couple of times last night on really good chances. And then we had TK all alone on Adnersen, and he scooped it into the back glass on the backhand. |

Good puck possession teams are skilled enough to get the puck back when they lose a draw. Faceoffs matter. But when you win them matters more. Last minute of the game down a goal, tied or up a goal or on the PP and PK magnifies them. Maybe with all the data analysis, the NHL will come up with a formula for measuring who wins more critical faceoffs.

Situation based for sure. What it comes down to is it fair to say, hey Frost needs to improve on his faceoff ability? Sure! Should it be the focus on his play last night, no. What happened is exactly what I said would happen. During the game, one of the biggest Frost detractors was unwilling to give him any time to get back into it after sitting out six games.
