Letang is so much so the key thats why they went and got Karlson ?
Its Crosby teams and it has been for what 17 years ?
Pînot is also just out for half a season, but I guess if you write it twice...it becomes one ? |

I know it will never happen but imagine the pieces you could get for Crosby Malkin Letang and how that could warp drive your rebuild? Why spend the next three years (frank)ing around when they are so far from being a contender? |

Clearly you've watched nothing on Pittsburgh. They have the worst PP unit in the league with Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Karlsson. Jarry is playing poorly and the scoring at even strength hasn't been good enough. Malkin, Smith, Pettersson, Zohorna, and Rust are the only players playing well right now. |

Same reason most ownership groups procrastinate rebuilds. Because ownership doesn't want to guarantee losing millions in the immediate turn to potentially earn more in the long term. All four of Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Karlsson have full NMCs so probably won't get good returns on them unless they are flexible in waiving those. The time to rebuild was last year and FSG didn't want it so it will likely be a long painful decline from there. |

Karlsson and Burns showed you can't have two alphas on a team. There's just so much puck time for big possession people. I thought he'd energize the Penguins and for similar reasons it didn't work in SanJose it's not working in Pitt. I had proposed trading him straight up for Chabbot who lacks a no trade. Chabbot is probably not worth the 8 he's making and Karllson probably isn't worth the 11.5 he's making.
Letang gets to be the alpha again. Karlsson goes to one of the few places he'd probably waive to go to. He gets to be the alpha again. People in Ottawa love him.

Karlsson is going to go down as the Tavares of Dubas' Pittsburgh tenure and it was completely predictable. A flashy move that really didn't fill a need and was a huge mis-allocation of resources. Mike Grier probably still can't believe he got someone to take 10 million dollars of that contract for four years. And then go sign up for 6 years of Ryan Graves at 4.5.
Find someone who loves you unconditionally the way hockey media loves Kyle Dubas unconditionally. I predict he will get zero blame for the even bigger hole he's dug for the Pens. |

So alpha theory meaning like a primitive pack of animals? That makes...zero sense. Karlsson and Burns both played 24+ minutes/game in 2019 and San Jose went six games into the WCF. Pathetic goaltending lost them the series to the SC winning Blues.
Karlsson plays RD and Chabot plays LD. PIT doesn't need another LD with Pettersson and Graves. So bad trade idea. Karlsson is paid $10m by PIT after the San Jose retention. |

Carter is the biggest travesty of the old men. Even if he had earned the league minimum salary. |

Team defense isn’t just about defenseman it’s about forwards playing defense.

Not sure where the Garland talk comes from. Two pts in nine games on a team that's lighting it up gets no team interested. Canucks included. I guess you hang in there because you have to and admit you just have some deals that hurt. |

Kyle will be trading what’s left of the Penguins draft capital for another aging player who may help them get a wildcard spot in the playoffs.
How long after Sid will we be hearing about the Penguins moving? |

As much as fans hate the Bruins (myself included) it's amazing to see a team lose soo many key players, not have any top 12 picks for over a decade, and still be at the top of the standings (not to mention they failed the 1st round @ the 2015 NHL draft).
That round aside, their scouting and developing of certain players is crazy. Brad Marchand probably the only person in the game I wouldn't mind being taken out, but good pick at 71 back in 2006.
2014, David Pastrnak is a top 3 pick of the draft with Brayden Point, Leon Draisaitl. Charlie McAvoy is one of the best 5-7 players in the draft. Matthew Poitras in the second round of 2022 is looking solid. This is after guys like Lucic, Bergeron, Krejci, Lucic were all taken late in drafts. |

Very impressive start by the Bruins. The view here was the Boston would finish 8th in the East, behind Columbus.

They also have an elite head coach who took a very mediocre Stars team to within a Game 7 OT of the Conference Final (losing to the eventual SC Champion) his first year as an NHL coach and saw that team go to the SC Final after he was let go for his off ice behavior a third of the way into the following season. He also took DU to the frozen four his third year there and won an NC the next season. If you get the chance find the list of 10 things he tries to get his team to accomplish every game, it's pretty instructive.
Edit - The list is actually seven items:
Montgomery's seven tenets
Jim Montgomery knows that to win in the pro ranks he'll have to adapt the principles that made him successful as the coach of Denver University. Still his seven keys to success give insight into the objectives and strategies he instills in his teams. Here they are:
1. Fifty hits in a game
2. Win 60 percent of faceoffs
3. Give up three or fewer odd-man rushes
4. Commit to blocking shots
5. Win the special teams battle
6. Win the net front battle
7. Take zero undisciplined penalties |

Yes it was. We all laughed and continue to laugh. They most likely won't win the cup. They lost 2 very aged centers off of the 22-23 opening day roster and fan base new this was coming. The rest of the team is still pretty good which has been wholesale discounted and ignored with fan and pundit smoking hot takes. The expectation of them falling off of a cliff was as overblown as Bedardapalooza. The correct expectation is and remains get a playoff spot.
Like the Spanish inquisition, nobody expected Poitras. It's a very helpful bonus. But B's fans need to stay on planet earth, he's 19 and not used to 82. There will be a dip.
Sweeny is still going to have to be very creative and help them at the deadline. |
