I'm not saying it's an absolute necessity to fire Keefe (I do think it should be done and should've been done in the off-season), but there is a coach out there that's available right now that wouldn't put up with all the nonsense that this team currently does.

Gallant is a no nonsense guy. And the team would 100% be tougher and retaliate more.

Not saying that Matthews (who should never ever fight), Marner, or Nylander would. But the team as a whole would. And Reaves would be used as he should be.

Getzlaf is one of my top 5 favourite players ever. Loved the way he played.

My reasoning for why Matthews should never fight is pretty simple, though. He's had insane wrist problems. I hope every person in the organisation has said to him not to do it.

True. Only one way to find out, though. Fire the coach and bring in someone else.

If it continues, it comes from higher up and the coach either agreed with it or was forced to do it.

You'd think that with the absolute mess the Blue Jays are with their management calling the shots, that the Leafs would want to learn from that.

Some say it's up to the players, but IMO it's up to the coach. Keefe could have made sure Reaves was on the ice at the same time as Marchand after the incident. I am sure he told his players not to retaliate knowing that the most dishonest ref in the league was in charge. Keefe chose to try to win the game instead. I don't agree with Keefe's coaching style. I would have liked to have seen an answer to that dirty hit. I don't think a 1 minute wrestling match (think about the useless retailiation against Perry) does the trick. I do believe the Leafs should retaliate, take the penalty and make sure it causes significant damage

Nobody expects it shouldn’t want 34 16 88 91 fighting. But when Marchand did that last game why didn’t 16 who was right there skate in and cross check him or give him a whack of sone sort. It’s about doing something. Grab him and tie him up your teammates will arrive soon after and yrs at least a scrum.

Look at Bert first couple games of the season. In front of net / caused a commotion a scrum (34 was in there grabbing a guy Gio came flying in) that’s what’s needed each game when if this happens.

Problem is leafs have 16 88 91 34 and not one if their stats are willing to do anything remotely tough. Nate Mac gets dirty Stammer Christ Sid drops mitts - all the same presence is not good

Edit: 34 jumped in but 16 kinda did something too though I agree. He skates to the Habs player at the end boards and stood there. Better than what he did to Marchand


Who really knows (I tend to lean that way too) but either way I was trying to show that you don’t necessarily need to drop and throw. You can swing away and get involved in other ways.

That said I do agree with Dozzer that sometimes it’s not ‘your thing’ but man a captain may need to at least grab a guy he won’t get smoked by (JT vs Marchand) and use what they taught you in Jr. grab tie twist and hold. Just the show of it will jack up the bench and let the league know there is pushback.
