Yeah I think it was silly too.

I mean you get these tough edgy players, a play like this happens with 50 seconds left and Keefe has all 3 glued to the bench the for the rest of the period.

It was a bad look, and the next time it happens is when I will reserve judgment. This better have been a learning opportunity for Keefe.

Keefe needs to go. Its the easiest of changes you can make, with potentially the biggest impact. Keefe shouldnt have to learn at this point 5 years in to coaching at the NHL level. Gallant at least has had success, gets buy in, and his teams play a structured hard nosed game.

Keefe is a decent NHL coach, not great but not the worst. At this point though he seems to have just hit his shelf life and the team cant survive on just skill alone. Keefe doesnt seem at all capable of getting more out of them, to get them to that next level/gear. Great AHL coach but.... his tenure has not been bad, but not great either.

Tre needs to not wait all year. Keefe aint his guy. The team is still very much Dubas's finesse, soeed, skill build. Like to see Tree make the coach move and get on with things.

There are plenty of great players who aren't physical. You can't expect a Marner, Matthews or Nylander etc to be hard nosed players that go through their opponents. And there are plenty of successful teams with players like them.

But they have to have that extra drive to want to win. Not just be great individual players. Willing to sacrifice and almost kill to win.

I was never a good player, but I did play with some who would run through a wall to win. Do almost anything to win.

I don't get that feeling from this group. And it can't just be the bottom 6 that you get that from.

Wth happened to Bertuzzi and Domi? They're supposed to be nut jobs who are a pain in the ass to play against. I just don't see it at all.

You know, other than the 1st period and of course nobody beating Marchand into a pulp, they played a very good game. Stuck with the hated Bruins every step of the way, and likely deserved a better fate.

There are always positives, including from last night's game, but no pushback after that awful trip is hard to swallow.

19-91-16

44-78

Finished the period.

Domi hopped on with 4 secs left got a pass on front leafs bench and actually tried a reverse hit (while receiving the puck) at the bruin (pasta) and attempted a bit if an elbow missed. Horn went and domi circled as soon as horn sounded skates toward the bruins on the ice (he was just inside leafs blue at this point) it cut to commercial. As it cut to commercial you can see Keefe yelling something towards where the players would be. Speculation but probably yelling ‘stay out of it’ as the horn went and that could be a penalty and it seems he doesn’t like the extra curricular stuff

Reaves had one shift in the 3rd against Marchand and you could visibly see that Marchand was actually scared. Didn't do anything good that shift.

First - love the ALL CAPS. Makes me think your point does hold water.

Second - I’m now convinced that you are a negative troll and not a Leafs fan. No way you could’ve watched games previous years and not have been pissed at the abuse 34 16 88 91 but specifically the first two took throughout the season. It would be a full out lie to further your point to say that hasn’t happened. In fact folks in here have rightfully been angry of those boys getting abused.

Third - he did all he could from the bench. Cause that’s where his coach (who hates the rough games because his roster is soft) kept him.

Lastly - they haven’t been touched all year so far. They won’t be. When you are and especially if it goes without a response, you can then tell me my argument holds no water.

for a reason. He has a 2-3 year shelf life and hasnt accomplished a thing. Both times he did good in first year then next year regressed and then gonzo
- drexel

Unfortunately he just extended him 2yrs so he’s not going to say, I made a mistake and you’re gone Keefe! Just like the core with no trade contracts. We are stuck without a spine for years to come.

We just don’t know if Keefe has him on a very short leash. I’ll give Reaves the benefit of doubt for a bit!!

Agreed.
The top 3 just dont seem to have that extra gear to do whatever it takes to win. And youre right not all 3 need to have that....but one of the $10m guys (including willie as he soon will be) should.

But maybe that changes?

It's all four. And you can't have a shoegazer as your captain. There is a serious leadership problem with this group.

Not only is Ryan Reaves useless as a hockey player - he is a complete liability every time he's on the ice - he's not the guy who is gonna drag this spineless group of pussies into the fight. It's gotta be a core piece or two.

Reaves was the absolute wrong way to go because it's again allowed the rest of these stiffs to just let someone else - maybe Reaves, maybe the 40 year old defenceman - fight the battles and do the dirty work. It's got to be a team response, a pack mentality. The Leafs have lacked that for about 20 years now.

Snot? Yeah, right, Brad.

110% this.

(frank)ery takes place and everyone on the ice should start looking for somebody to run at or punch. Someone goes down from a dirty hit, even Marner and JT should come in with flying fists.

Personally, I'd rather take a beating standing up like a man, than skate away with my tail tucked between my legs like a neutered dog. This team needs a pack mentality, not one aging murder pylon.

I'm not so sure I want Marner, Matthews or Willy running in with "flying fists"
There were a few very positive things in that game that in the long term were worth more than the loss of a single point against the top team in the NHL.

1 - Samsonov played one of his best games as a Leaf.
2 - Leafs came back from down 2-0 againsts arguably the best defensive team and a very good goalie in a tough building.

A couple of very predictable, consistent trends continued

1 - Wes McCauley - a ref with documented hatred for Keefe and the Leafs missed a call on the dirtiest play of the year. Can-Opener and Slew foot on the same play resulting in a serious injury. Five and a game by any reasonable standard

2 - Parros will not suspend a player that injures a Leaf.

I hope, but I am not holding my breath, that Leafs make sure Marchand pays a price every shift he plays next time Bruins play the Leafs.

JT is the captain, fighting isn’t his thing but sometimes he needs to do it anyways, that’s simply part of being the damn captain.
