Sure retain a bit on Garland and Dubas will convince Carter to waive his NMC for Vancouver. Makes lots of sense for both sides... |

Vancouver leads the NHL with 54 goals. Conor Garland has scored ONE time, and that was a month ago. He's pretty useless. So what Vancouver wants for him is...cap space! Take him for free. We get $5M of cap space now that we can use either now, or at the deadline to improve our team that appears like a legit contender. The $5M of cap space for the next 2 years will come in handy to give Pettersson a raise.
But will wait to hear what you learn this afternoon. |

Would be great if the Canucks had a consistent blogger to cover such things. Maybe you should read your email! |

I like Garland as a player. He's not great by any means, and definitely on a cold steak, but he would be a huge upgrade over O'Connor on the 3rd line. But PIT has no cap space and obviously this roOmEr is as unfounded as all the others he makes up. If Rutherford were stupid enough to trade him straight up for Carter, Dubas would take that in an instant.

The penguins will take him. He's scored as many goals as all 3 of the 4th line players have now.. And a bonus he doesn't play physical and can't fight. He's sullivans type of player, the less physical the better. They'll probably trade petterson for garlund seeing he's the only fighter the penguins have.
Garlund might be underage though? He's only 27. |

Looks like Billy Guerin is doing whatever he can in his hogtied environment to improve his team. I don't know enough about the Wild this season to know if they're better off with an older stay at home D rather than a younger puck mover. |

Between Campbell clearing waivers and the Tampa Minny trade the site couldn't handle the traffic. And now we get this barn burner of a rumor. The site will implode. |

Well of course any NHL team would "take" Garland. He's a legit middle 6 forward. But not for $4.95M x 3 years. Pitt has $0 cap space. So how do they fit a $5M player? They have 13 players with NMC/NTCs, and I'll bet everyone has the 7 Canadian teams listed. Oh yeah, those 13 players are the largest cap hits on the team. So if you look at all the players without any trade constraints, almost every single one is making less than $1M. Lars Eller is the only contract greater than $1M that can be freely moved. And even then, it's just $2.45M. Does Vancouver want to retain 50% of Garland and swap for Lars Eller? They already have their own Lars Eller. His name is Sam Lafferty and he makes $1.1M.
The point being, Pittsburgh isn't shopping for anyone of significance. Not Garland. Not Couturier. They have no cap space and the 13 largest contracts are hard to move. |

The Sharks have no D men that can move the puck. Addison should help. The Wild removed Addison from the #1 PP but he’s played better this year. Middleton is the only physical D man on the Wild. Bogosian seems to be in Jordie Benn territory. Wild D are getting outmuscled and Guerin doesn’t have options. Wild will probably give Faber a shot on the PP.

Bingo. The other factor...Addison had arb rights. Last year he had 29 points in just 62 games. This year he has 5 points in 12 games. If he puts up 30-40 points, then as a young, RHD, he can likely go to arbitration and get a $2M+ deal. Minny has $15M of dead cap next year, so can't afford to have a bottom pair d-man make more than $1M. Bogosian gives them 3rd pair depth and then walks. So the trade gives some sandpaper now and avoids a minor cap issue this summer. |

All true. Now the Wild have Spurgeon coming back. He’s the only puck mover and he’s not young and has shown some decline. The writing was on the wall for Addison when he was scratched for the entire playoffs last year. Tough times ahead for the Wild.

The Penguins have no cap Space. You might as well keep him or find another trade partner. Pittsburgh would have to give you a bad contract to take a bad contract.

Thanks, Minny. I actually kinda sorta wanted the Avs to claim Bogosian when Tampa waived him right before the season. I think he'd be just fine on the third pair. Guerin has to figure out how to somehow make it through this season and next. |

I think you forgot what dubas traded out of pittsbugh? 4 horrible contracts. I'm not a fan of garlund (read again) the penguins lack physical players with size and grit. I believe bill guerin was the last "power forward" they had. The penguins are living in the 2016-2017 era with speed??? Speed isn't what's winning nowadays if you look at the rosters the past 6 years of teams that won the cups. And besides that they are older. I'm not even going into the old way of the steelers and mike tomlin. He needed fired years ago with sullivan. |
