How does a team finish last season 14-0-1 and give Vegas arguably their toughest test in the playoffs and then start the season 2-9-1 with pretty much the same roster?

This is beyond crazy.

The two general managers you've trusted to build a team around McDavid since he came into the league are Peter Chiarelli and Ken Holland.

You guys chose to handcuff McDavid right off the bat.

Say what you want about Kane, but he takes care of business on the ice. I lived in the Bay Area when he played there and watched most of the games. Even his last year in SJ he was the best player on the ice amid all the off ice distractions.

Chiarelli for sure. Holland hasn't been as bad as I expected, though that Campbell contract is turning into one of the league's worst.

Need a mean coach to light a fire under them. It’s a shame Darryl is still under contract.

Hola Mrs McDavid, are you ghosting the thread? Waiting for Woody to go down in Flames?

Kanes not the problem, I’ll tell you what the problem is. The Oiler bench gets to sit and watch McDavid and Draisaitl get excessive shifts everytime the Oilers are down a goal. It’s the only real strategy that Woody has. The rest of the team sits and watches as the Dynamic Duo skirts around the ice. Sometimes it works as they are both awesome players, but it doesn’t build any team unity. It’s like a 2 or 3 tiered system, everyone just wants to feel like they’re contributing but the coach keeps going back to the well. Fire Woody, hold Holland accountable.

Todd McLellan, Ken Hitchcock, Dave Tippett and now Jay Woodcroft have all coached Draisaitl and McDavid. Each of them have utilized that same strategy. There is no reason to suggest a new coach wouldn’t do the exact same thing.

You put your best players out to try and win games. I don’t disagree that there is the unintended consequences you’ve mentioned

Everybody is blaming Nurse for the 3-rd goal the other night but his cover man was #91 who did not cover the blue line when nurse was pinching down. If he had provided support like that left winger should there would not have been a 3 on 1 rush by the other team. #91 was on the ice for 2 of the 3 goals against. He might be doing oaky in the offence zone, but is a big part of defense liabilities.

Kane has his flaws. He takes too many undisciplined penalties, he’s never been good defensively and he’s not great in transition. Kane can score, drive the net and get high danger chances. That’s his game. He’s regressed since his SJ days and physical players regress faster than others. He’s fine now. If he’s still on the team in 25-26 that would be the time to move him.
