So here's my wild, totally speculative, I shouldn't actually be speculating guess:
Random mentally-ill nutjob looking to end his life, but do it American style (sorry), meaning grab attention and hurt others.
Today is the biggest US travel day, so biggest headlines, biggest disruption. - Atomic Wedgie
Report that a car in Buffalo sped the wrong way down a street, exploding into the inspection area. The two people in the car were killed and guard was injured.
I was surprised as well and I’m guessing that this will either involve a delayed removal from LTIR for Timmins or they’re just waiting til they can get Klingberg onto it at the same time.
Maybe Reaves will retire early only to get hired as a DJ who plays tunes in the dressing room for $1.3 mill per season? - Dozzer
I think if he does retire, his cap hit stays for the duration of his contract.

It shouldn't. Note that you're correct in your thinking - but there was an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) issued to the CBA in 2020 which revised the applicable rules for a 35+ contract.
Capfriendly does report his contract as being 35+ in their application - but I think it's older code that flags this as being 35+. The rules for a 35+ contract are that it:
- Takes Effect in a year where the player already is or turns 35 by June 30 (this is true) and
- Exceeds 1 year in length (it does) and either
- Is front-loaded (Reaves' contract is not - all three years are the same), or
- Contains signing bonuses in year 2 or later (it does not)
So it doesn't meet the qualifications of being a 35+ contract; if Reaves retires, he would come off the books.
The longer this drags on, the less likely it is he signs.
C’mon. This isn’t an inflammatory statement. It’s just how it’s playing out. Willy is playing himself out of TOR. Which is good because now Tre can get more for him. - Arctic_AARDVARK
C'mon that's not true. I know you wanted it to be true but it's not.
Yes Nylander maybe playing himself out TO but he may take a shorter deal say like 4 year and them more $$$.
Don't forget he has m-ntc so you'll need to work with that as well if the Leafs do move him.

95% of professional truckers never did, it was just a tiny unhinged minority giving real, sensible truckers a bad name. The real truckers stood tall and kept working when it was needed most. - Zezel

When Nylander signed his last contract, it was at the 11th hour that he did sign.
Alls I'm saying is that he could be resigned by the Leafs at the last possible moment.

Ya I don’t think the new boss is down with that.
Nylander is handcuffing the team rn, dragging out this contract negotiation. I really think the longer this goes on, the more pressure Tre is under to move him. The only thing I can think of that would stop him from doing so, is if Shanny is pulling the strings.

But why? Almost every UFA star does this...they want to see how their season goes before signing.

Because it's Nylander and Nylander is the devil because his $6.9m absolute albatross of a contract has hurt the Leafs immeasurably. If only he had been overpaid by 4 million more maybe we wouldn't have to listen to this crap all the time.
The real question is: who is dragging out the negotiation? Nylander or Treliving? Nylander is shutting up and putting up. But Nylander gets the blame and the new guy gets the credit for not doing anything.
Quips aside, it's most likely that Treliving is going to wait until after the playoffs and determine which player is going to bring in the most value for their money and if they need to make a move then, they will. Nylander's value likely won't be any higher than it is right now on this heater, so waiting doesn't hurt us - and he's not pushing for an immediate deal now anyway.

90% of fans and all of media keep saying "the regular season doesn't matter" and playoffs is all that matters.
But now 20 games of Nylander getting 27 points means he is worth 12M now?
Its insane, Willy will go through a dry streak, he will finish with 40+ goals and 95ish points.
The playoffs will decide how much he earns from the Leafs.

Brad Treliving has asked William Nylander to submit a 10 team no trade list. William was spotted leaving Treliving’s office with a pen and a blank piece of paper.
