If Edmonton keeps losing, McDavid is going to demand a trade out.
Willy, Knies, Samsonov, Brodie, two 1st Rd picks, prospect for McDavid and Campbell.
That’s a massive haul for McDavid. - Arctic_AARDVARK
thats not a fair trade

In all seriousness, that doesn't exactly improve our team, despite netting the best player in the league. We'd have to do a lot of other moves to free up cap space and would be even worse. I don't even know if we could ice a 12F/6D. |

yeah something like that is an off season move, so you have time to fill in all the holes it leaves

Sure the leafs get the best player in the deal, but taking on campbell for 4 more years plus all the holes that trade would create for the leafs would be a big issue.
Right now id say no. |

It would be downright cruel to bring Campbell back to Toronto.
Even if you put him on the Marlies, the hate towards his cap hit would do serious damage to his mental health. |

If this was true, Nylander and Marner would be straight-jacketed in a padded room. |

More importantly, Oilers are taking an almost $4M cap hit to have him play badly in the AHL. |

He'd probably do ok playing with a tighter system like Vegas, Nashville, Carolina, etc. as a backup where'd he be more sheltered, but he'd have to bought out first, then moved... Oilers would need to eat 1.5 to 2.3M in dead cap space for the remainder of the contract.
Ouchie. |

I can't imagine any NHL team taking on Campbell now in any capacity at any price.
His game log in the AHL:
November 9: 4 GA on 20 shots
November 11: 4 GA on 26 shots
November 14: 5 GA on 21 shots
November 21: 0 GA on 30 shots
Last night he pitched a 30 save shutout - but going into that game he was rocking an .806 save percentage with a 4.36GAA. Even after the shutout, he still has an unimpressive .873 / 3.26. This is not a bad team - guys like Olivier Rodrigue and Calvin Pickard are carrying .942 and .939 save percentages as well as 2.00 and 2.03 goals against averages, respectively.
He has a ways to go before he can even prove he belongs in the AHL regularly.

So what happened to Soup?
Were his quality starts in the NHL just a statistical aberration? Did an injury permanently change something? Did he just forget how to goalie?

I don’t think they pay escrow when they’re in the ahl too. He’s making more there then he would in the nhl. |

The weight of his big contract killed him. He probably would be a better goalie if he was in the 2 million range. |

So, you guys wouldn’t pull the trigger on that deal for McDavid?
A team with Rielly, Matthews, Marner, Tavares, McDavid isn’t good enough to win?
Huh? |

I wonder what the record is for NHL salary playing in the ECHL.

Stolen from a Reddit hockey thread:
From the CBA:
13.11 No Loans to East Coast Hockey League.
A Player who is not in the Entry Level System may not be Loaned to the East Coast Hockey League without his consent.

It would be if you had quality wingers and more than just rielly on the back end.
There would be no quality depth.
Unless the trade is done in the off season.
Also, wed be taking on campbell and thats just a waste of cap. |
