This rebuild is going to be painful like it was last night. But ill gladly go thru this to get back to the top. Id rather suck really bad for a few years, draft well and build then forever be stuck middle of the pack and never win a cup.

Now that hawks will have more cap space with hall going on LTIR, wonder what can Davidson do with that cap space? Example Edmonton imo is in desperation mode and needs to turn it around and soon. So Campbell 2024 1st unprotected ++ for ? From the hawks. Or any team that is in cap hell.

Pretty sure Campbell has 4 more years at $5M. We might need that cap space 2 years from now.

Campbell has 3 yrs @ $5M and whatever is left for this season, so about $17.5M total to absorb - that cost is expensive to buy a 1st round lottery pick. To absorb that money the Hawks need at least a hot prospect player in addition to the draft pick.

Hall is on IR not LTIR, same as Athanaseu. Depending what happpens with Perry, Hall will stay on IR, Hawks still have to be above the cap floor. That means Zaitsev stays too.

I hear Phil Kassel is still available. I bet he wouldn’t mind $4 mil. Prorated for the rest of the season.

I was just thinking the same thing. The Hawks gm is looking for a bas contract with a guy who can still play like hall and has a higher salary that a team needs to move. Maybe the Hawks talk to Edmonton? Or Tampa, they need a goalie since theirs is out for a while. I think mrazic contract I'd up after this year possibly. And the Hawks can eat some to take some sort of prospect or decent player as a sweetener.

Tampa? They need a goalie for meow. We have one, we could take an expensive contract decent player off there hands and get a little more extra picks from them too. We trade with them a lot too.

Well Bedsy will understand where the team is in the standings now that Taylor is gone for the season, and we await the Perry (Valeri Nichushkin) absence.

He knows there are youngness playing on dee, and he knows he needs to continue to builds his individual strengths in areas.

I think it is one ready soon high impact draft pick with Celebrini, and one huge gun that is still developing in Cole Eiserman.

It is not like I have a lack of confidence in the descending tiers of defenders and forwards after Eiserman, but either go these kids will find their way up to the Blackhawks is we do continue the backslide.

How about Bedard calls Nylander after the drafting gets him to sign here?

Rangers fans are loving him, and hes been one of the besf D men in the league thus far.

The question is with all the players that may be available come June, are you guys content with how things have gone thus far to potentially end the rebuild and go all-in on some of these elite players?

- aecliptic

There's never been question about gus offense, it's his Iq and defense that is awful. If he is sheltered and put into more offensive settings he is going to put a ton of points on the stats sheet.

You won't.get much value from Edmonton. They know the big problem is their dmen, and Mrazic - injury prone - is not a savior or even going to be a significant upgrade in net.

The Oilers drafted some dmen but they haven't cut the mustard. Ironicly Lagesson moved to Toronto and he won't help them much. There was expectation that Broberg would develop. Yet has been skating not even 15 TOI..

Edmonton would love to turn on their ignition switch but they are not playing well defensively

They need to draft well and upgrade both in net and on the blueline

Mrazek wasn't at practice either.
- rickboardman

Well Edmonton needs help there, and this is the healthiest and best we have gotten out of Mzarek since he arrived, so it must be time to trade him.

It is going to take a Edmtn first rounder to eat that Jack Cambell's deal until 2026-2027, along with RD prospect Beau Key, because I doubt they are sending Bouchard packing despite his lack of defensive defending...and maybe I need Dylan Holloway too.

Watched practice yesterday at 5/3. No contact. Not even a pillow fight. Maybe nobody told the bottom players that there is a guy who has 4 points and -10 on Bedard's line and if they fight for it perhaps they can play on that line. Flow drills. Lots of powerplay. Surprisingly when the PP team losses the puck the coaches put another one in play without the PP having to exit the zone. Here you go. Not an intense practice. Richardson mostly stood in the corner by himself. Smiles all around from the players. First half of the practice was on the west rink. Once the ice got chewed up they switched to the east rink. Davidson sat in the Management loft on his phone the entire 2nd half. I thought there might have been a drill or two focused on defensive zone coverage. I don't understand Richardson. The Hawks are firmly in 31st with the 2nd worst goal differential and worst home record in the league by far. Progress?

Gonna put it out there He's a hawk for life. He will take a cap friendly deal like his idol Crosby because winning is the most important thing to him.

I think it’s pretty obvious the Hawks aren’t aiming at progress this season. The strategy seems to be acquiring another high draft pick and if they make a deal with Edmonton as speculated could have three first rounders next draft. Nothing from what I have seen suggests the team is trying to get better this season. And for that it has nothing to do with Richardson it’s all on Davidson, and his plan to build the team.

I think you’re right. Bedard’s not stupid, he sees other teams, he sees four or five guys taking half the cap leaving little for good depth players. And that’s why acquiring guys some fans are talking about like Nylander, Matthews, Marner, Draisaitl probably won’t happen. If any of these guys come on as free agents they sign for huge salaries making it difficult to talk Bedard, Korchinski etc. to take hometown discounts.
