Ultimately, no defense looks good with bad goaltending. Carolina has the best team defense in the league. But their goaltending is sucking this season and it holds the team back with too many goals allowed. Edmonton is offensively capable of outscoring below average goaltending, but it can't be this weak.

Yes you're absolutely right. Bouchard is the only player to ever miss on a 2-1 opportunity. Will update the blog accordingly.

Great blog.

Bouchard had a brutal start.

Skinner ditto... Campbell... Nurse imo... McDrai... Kane was down right brutal his first 5 or 6 games.

It's been an unbelievably bad start for some individuals and the team as a whole.

Thank you for posting those stats. I think Bouchard will rightfully be blasted for his defensive play but if he can even get his defensive game close to average his offensive game is so next level I hope too many don't hyper focus on that bad defensive play.

Bouchard is on pace for ppg... In only his third season in the NHL. He is not a product of McDavid. He is the real deal. One of the few picks that to date has covered the spread and is performing as he should be or better.

I am more worried we won't be able to afford him moving forward than his defensive play. He is an elite offensive defenseman that I hope can play for the Oilers for a long time.

Might possibly be a good blog. Couldn’t read it as it’s completely covered in Chevy advertisement that overlap the blog. This has to be one of the worst hockey sites on the web.

Only a coilers blogger would tell people how to think !! I’m surprised that lazy eye fool can even hit the net , I guess that’s why he’s so terrible at defences he can’t see where they are coming from lol boo hoo let the crying begin

Oh, other players have done it? Well then why hold him accountable? The guy can't defend but we won't hold him accountable for that because of the offence, and let's be honest here, he was a turd on skates when he was on the 3 man OT unit, so tell me I'm wrong all you like, but I like players who contribute to the team's success, not the ones that need puff articles to defend them after every game.

If you have a legitimate argument on Bouchard I’ll listen all day. But coming in here talking about a missed 2-1 is weak. Read the blog and you’ll see he does contribute to the teams success.

Bouchard is quite possibly the worst player on the Oilers!

He is a turnover machine!

His back-pass to McDavid on the PP is rarely where McDavid wants it, causing him to stutter step and lose momentum (the foundation of EDM's PP).

He cannot hold the blue line and keep the puck in the zone.

He cannot distribute the puck from the D-zone...usually ices it.

His passes are rarely on the tape, teammates often reaching 4or 5 inches to retrieve the sh1tty pass.

He's got one of the worst pivots for an NHL defender I've EVER seen (might be worse than Desharnais!). Players literally blowing by him outside.

He doesn't win any physical battles on the wall.

He is THE definition of "slow twitch"! This kid thinks soooooo slow! He is never ready for passes and quick plays executed by the other elite players on his team. He actually looks dumb, eyes crossed, etc.

...but he has a great slapshot.

I never in a million years thought I'd miss Tyson Barrie, but Bouchard sucks so bad I find myself wanting Barrie back.

If you can't see any of these dreadful weaknesses in Bouchard's game, I don't know what to tell you!

He's my number ONE player to get rid of. I can't believe anyone would want him, but I'd trade him yesterday.

I agree with this, we've all missed goal line tap ins. Bouchard however is always late, always slow mentally, always just a little behind. I really think he can't keep up mentally...his hockey sense is horrendous.

I named him Richard Head last year and it suits him perfectly lol. He can make you very angry that’s for sure but he has shown before he can be good enough on D and superstar on O. Definitely be nice to see some sort of intensity out of him. Hell of a game from him tonight against the Jets. As well as a shout out to Darnel 👍🏻🤠

The mistakes I can accept, the 2 on 1 whatever … the offensive upside is questionable based on simple stats but again not debating that … the issue is that he is so soft on the puck and that is what I can’t get past. There is no level of compete from him in the corners. Please name a D in the league that is separated from the puck so easily. I’d rather have a capable defender. Won’t change the PP.

So you want to get rid of a powerplay specialist in Bouchard and a #1 center in Draisaitl. Who are you trading with and what’s the return?

I’m sure if the Oilers don’t have playoff success this year, LD will inform the team he won’t sign an extension and force his way out of Canada.

Bouchard is just a terrible hockey player, and I would have shopped Draisaitl because having McDavid makes him expendable (as a one dimensional elite fwd). Both players however are really underperforming currently so their value is not where it could be. I've repeated this several times actually.

I'd seriously pull the fkn 'chute on Bouchard though...horrible player.
