Also, Frost broke even on faceoffs because he only took 6 faceoffs the entire game. The majority of the faceoffs went to Couts (21), Laughton (22) and Poehling (15), why do you think that is?
- jd250

Is this what you’ve come to, trying to critique the player on face offs ?

I think these D pairs would be the best given what we have.
Staal is slow and Zamula is inconsistent.

Bill, I agree with a lot of what you say here about Frost except one thing; I didn't think he had a decent game at all. Besides the bad penalty and the lost draws, or in some cases being kicked out of the draw before it even happens, Frost is just too weak on the puck. I hardly see him ever win a puck battle, and is he routinely knocked off the puck too easily. I agree that he is probably a super nice kid, but he just does not have any sandpaper to his game. Compare him to Foerster, who has a great shot but does so many other things well, especially the most important thing in hockey, winning puck battles. And at this point, I think Frost is what he is, which is just not good enough.
- jd250

You never see Frost do anything, which is why you labeled him an AHL player. Yes, compare him to Foerster. Has Foerster led the team in ES scoring for a full NHL season? HAs Foerster led the team in overall scoring for a 5 month period of NHL action? The most important thing in hockey, is scoring goals.

"You have doubts whether York is an NHL player.

"you don't see it in Farabee, better suited for the 3rd line."

Frost is an AHL player, now he is what he is. Which is not good enough.

Blah,blah, blah, blah

Well, he was tossed from a couple and most of his shifts started on the fly. He's at 44.3 percent on the season. It's not good but it's not disastrous, either. Laughton is at 44.4 percent.

I'm so glad you posted this because I have been seeing the same thing. Coots is often behind the play from the opening puck drop, has no acceleration up ice and his passing has been atrocious, leading his passes waaay too much. I wouldn't mind sitting him for a game and letting him recover. I know I have posted this a few times already but I will post it again, there something off with Couts, he is not right.
- jd250

Looking through your fantasy glasses again. Your ability to properly assess an NHL player remains atrocious. So here are some facts for you.

Couturier has 5 goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 22 games. I'd like to see his goal scoring increase but solid numbers. Puts him on pace for 18 goals 41 assists for 59 points.

Now his underlying numbers

CF% 56.79% GF% 55.88% xGF% 59.59% SCF% 57.44% HDSCF% 63.03

Not only are these numbers good, they're beyond good. They're elite!

This is all for a player that missed almost two seasons of hockey due to injury and coming off of major surgery. What does this factual information really tell us? That you don't have a fricken clue at what you're looking at!

Frost doesn't create enough IMO to counter the things he does not do well, which I highlighted in my previous post. And I didn't mention Frost has had 3 soft penalties in the past two games. I don't mean to imply I want to sit him, just that so far he is not doing enough good things IMO to be a positive difference maker.
- jd250

That should do it, he should start scoring in bunches now.

Let the kids play, Frost will continue to get better, that is his MO. It happened when he first hit the AHL, then the NHL and he is getting his game back after ego boy sat him for 1/2.

Put Staal in a stall, only play ND when a Neanderthal is needed and see what you have.

CF seems to have hit on Tyson, brink and cam, hoping he hits on Toomuola. Fans deserve his draft record to be stellar after the rest of the poop he did.

- wcorvette

CF has drafted some pretty good players for Minnesota and the Flyers. It's what he does with the rest of the team is bad.

Eagles let them off the mat. Two red zone visit's, no TD's. Offside penalty gives them another shot and a TD. Hurts holding onto the ball too long. Now Frisco gets the ball to start the 2nd half.

There is no bread and butter running game. Last year, this same defense essentially could not stop us from running the ball when they knew we would run the ball. We picked up yards in small but steady chunks. But the running game today is gimmicky. Brian Johnson is a very average play caller. He gets bailed out by the high skill of some of our key players who make great plays.

They didn’t let anything. Sf #1 defense. They simply shut it down. And are giving them the smoke. As would’ve happened last year. Be glad injury let them go to sb

Not impressed with the red zone play calling. You can't settle for field goals against this Niners D. Niners offensively are taking advantage of the Flyers weak linebackers with a lot of underneath throws.

The middle of the field coverage issues are well known. But Cunninghan gone and Ellis being targeted again and again. Also lots of misdirection to free up space.

The big difference is the 49ers offense versus our off-ball D. The other sides are well matched or we even have an advantage. But the first gap is really big.

There is a little hope. A pretty average offence hung 35 odd points on Dallas D last game.

But 49ers were always way ahead of everyone. In the games they lost, Deebo didn't play iirc and Trent Williams was out (also iirc, he has not given up a sack in his career) and there was a lot of pressure on Purdy from the left side.

The 49ers are not way ahead of the Eagles. They're better today but see you in the playoffs.

Trent Williams has not given up a sack in his career? No such thing for an offensive lineman. Especially one who has played for 13 years.

Oh they are.

But don't take my word for it. Eagles are the first team since 1970 who are 10-1, at home and start as underdogs. And prety much every non-homer site had a vast majority of predictors choose the 49ers.
