Has anyone asked Torts why he gave Frost no shifts in OT? It would seem Frost is tailor made for OT.
Just curious as to his reasoning. - MBFlyerfan
Pretty sure he didn't listen |

I think it was because he was looking to get ND into the mix. He was ready to come over the boards when coots ended the game.. haha |

I thought Brink, Frost and Tippett had a good game on Monday. Who knows with Torts though
- mickel25
I didn't think they were all that great on Monday but I am not going to pick on Frost today. Instead I am going to go after Tippet, between his mismanagement of the puck in his own end, and the myriad of chances he is not finishing, he has got to raise his game. I really don't like that some games, for example Anaheim, he is all over the ice, and other games he is not. I would like to see more consistency in his play, better puck management in his own end, better awareness of the situation and thus the willingness to make the simple play, and most importantly, start finishing his scoring chances. |

Not how a player that plays 8-10 minutes a game is considered by some to be a core player, in fact I think ND only had one shift in the 3rd period last game. I do believe Torts has this romanticism about Nick being a throwback player to a game that has long since passed. But at this point, Nick needs to sit most games. |

If the flyers aren't ready to play this game, they will get blown out. Zona is a fast young team. Too bad they play in an arena that is minor hockey sized.. haha what a farce.. - Hextall271
Yea, Crapitools definitely looked like the oldest team in the NHL, in that 6 zip massacre |

IMO, Frost should be part of the 2nd unit out on the ice in OT. |

I mean, this is the same coach who ran two defensemen all last year in OT. Part of me thinks he hates the 3 on 3 and plays not to lose it. |

I’m gonna level with you guys. This is actually a good argument versus being upset because Frost’s ice time being cut when defending a lead. I agree with Torts taking certain players out of a game when defending a 1 or 2 goal game. Frost being one of those players. OT is an entirely different argument. Shootouts are an entirely different argument. I personally am not 100% comfortable with Frost’s defensive game at the moment but the other side of the puck is a different story. He needs to be apart of all offensive situations. |

It's the first thing I thought. - MBFlyerfan
I thought that Frost, Brink, and Foerster were good against the Pens. I particularly remember Brink taking Malkin into the corner and taking the puck from him. Also seemed to backchecking a lot. Frosty was working hard, as well, and going to the tough areas. And Foerster is really looking like he's coming into his own lately. All good signs. So where does OL fit in? We all know that ND should be watching from the press box, but he's one of the golden boys that can do no wrong. So, there's that...... |

Neither is Torts. But his underlying metrics say that his defensive game is sound. Torts just gets tunnel vision about certain players and it occurred long before he came here. It is what it is.

Is it possible that Farabee sits once on trip? I don't see Torts sitting ND. But Farabee was benched for "not listening" then seemed to make the same (or similar) mistake the next game... |

Torts has done some good but he is not helping Farabee. Farabee came into the season rolling, he is confident with the puck, and Torts is playing the revolving door with his linemates, the most popular being the ones that are struggling on the O side of the puck. Now the benching, hope Farabee can push through but he should be with Tip and Frost, though that line with Brink is getting traction.

I’m sure Frost does have good defensive numbers we have guys like Sean Couturier and Scott Laughton who are specifically built to close out games. I’m sure you’d get mad if you saw Noah Cates closing out a game but he’s being specifically groomed and developed to be that guy in that role. |

You'd be wrong, then. The puck was usually in the Pittsburgh end of the ice when those three were on the ice together. Had five bonafide scoring chances -- three for Tippett -- and were effective both against Eller's line and Malkin's. That's a good game, even though they didn't score. |

Tortorella on Frost's defensive improvements (said at the end of training camp):
"Give Frosty credit. He grew in that area [last season].... He's had a good camp."
There's been nothing this season to negate that.

Okay, are we still in camp? His ice time while defending a lead says different. I believe you pointed this out yourself…. |

Again, nothing this season has negated that. Tortorella simply isn't a fan of the player, for whatever his reasons. Probably the same reasons why Mats Zuccarello couldn't stay in Torts' lineup in New York. But his reasons are his own. |

totally agree, ND had chances to get off the ice and didn't do it, and it would have cost the team the game if it wasn't for Hart. I watched the Yotes the other night and they are a good team that plays really fast. Logan Cooley is a dangerous player. - jd250
There’s a cure for that. Keenan didn’t like Kovalev taking a 65 second shift. Keenan rewarded him with a 7 minute shift.
