Who is playing defense for the Flyers that is even close to Quinn Hughes? Which Flyers' forward is in the same league as Elias Pettersson or JT Miller?

So Tocchet has a team with three superstars, who are all in the top 10 in scoring in the league, in first place and playing well. Insert finger in cheek and popping sound here!

The Jack Adams Award is awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) coach "adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success." Which coach has contributed more to the success of their respective teams? It's not even close!

- jd250

This where your ignorance shines. They had the same three players last season. They finished 22nd overall in the league. Vancouver has gone from 22nd overall to currently 1st overall in the league. You're right, it's not even close. Tocchet is the current hands down favorite for the Jack Adams.

Re goaltending, you could say the same about the Flyers. I don’t give Torts any credit for Hart playing extremely well when healthy or Ersson being unbeatable in shootouts.

While Torts does have them playing a little better than last season, replace this season’s goaltending with last season’s and take away Couturier and the Flyers are at the bottom of the Metro. Honestly, I think Torts gets too much credit and the return of Couts along with good goaltending, not enough.

There is no doubt that the team is playing a lot more aggressively and with much better puck pressure. Playing well defensively and with good goaltending. However they just had a historic month and won a lot of tight games. Is that going to continue. They still don't have a legit defense pairing. Players like Seeler and Walker are playing above their heads. They don't have a player in the top 60 in scoring in the league. Like I said numerous times. I'm not fooled by it.

Quinn Hughes is a 5'10" defenseman that is only 24 years old, and has already had 2 monster seasons scoring wise before this season. Don't you think he is still on an upward trajectory? Yes getting the most out of the players is on the coach, but the level of players Tocchet has to work with are far above the level of player Torts has to work with, yet Torts has this Flyers' team, who were actually picked to finish in the bottom 5 of the league, in 2nd place by Christmas. I am not sure this will continue but if it does, Torts is the clear front runner, since he is doing more with much less.
- jd250

They're not second in the Metro in reality. Washington is ahead of them and the Flyers are tied with the Isles but get the tie breaker with ROW. Again, you're wrong. If both teams continue on the current trajectory, Tocchet wins the JA hands down

Hold the phone Buster Brown. He used to play for the Flyers. So he can't coach or have any real hockey knowledge right?
- mickel25

He's doing a great job there and that surprises me. He wouldn't have been my choice.

Thank you, and Vancouver didn't get a Coots level player back to start the season either. That is a significant add. As good as Torts has been for Risto, Tocchet has been for Myers...

Confusing logic that Torts is COY for bringing the team together, getting them to buy in, working with troubled dmen, and a hard team to play against team, yet Tocchet has done the same thing, only with better results, and he is not COY according to some.

We'll see how this unfolds.

Head to head next week...we shut them out at home, and Tocchet tore them a new one after that game. I expect Vancouver to be "up" for that game.

Good morning all...

For all those calling for Trots to be named Coach of the year, Tocchet has Vancouver in first place in the league.

Vancouver has been playing even better than Philly, and their players have totally bought into Tocchets system.Multiple players in the top 50 in the league for points, and their goalie has been just as good as Hart and Ersson.

Just saying.

- TheFreak

Nobody who says that was actually serious. Forget squeaking into the playoffs, Flyers would have to win the Metro just for Torts to get nominated.

The same poster said that Tortorella should've been the hands down winner of the Jack Adams last season. He has no clue.

Be interesting to see if hart gets the start tonight. Might be wise to let him recover longer through the break but o also don’t want to see Petersen start.
- Hextall271

Hart vomiting and sh!tting himself all night gives them a better chance than Petersen.

oh for sure he will, but I don't see him winning it.

I am not expecting them to make the playoffs so it is a moot point in my eyes.

I don't tend to listen to coach speak but Tortorella was pretty frank in a recent article on nbcsports.com/philadelphia. He's knows how the league is going to play out.

"We're in the end of December," he said. "You don't know what your team is until the end of January, you really don't."

"This team is going to have to forecheck. When this league gets going at the end of Christmas, after the holiday, that’s when the grind start’s coming in. If we think we’re going to be this high-flying transition team — spreading, stretching and not forecheck — we’re in for a rude awakening. We found that out tonight."

The issue is, to be a top team, that's exactly what you have to be. A high flying transition team backed up by solid team defense and goaltending. Tortorella team's aren't that and he doesn't know how to coach that.

Yeah but for two years you’ve been preaching that Torts is a terrible coach - so if he gets a Jack Adams nod it would be you who has no clue.

The Flyers have no first line or first pair talent. Vancouver has consistently underachieved before this year and the western conference is garbage this season.

What a bunch of BS!! Torts absolutely knows how to coach a team as to how to be a good transition team, but he understand that this team does not have the speed and talent up and down the lineup to be only a high-flying transition team. And BTW, NO high-flying transition team has won the cup without also being a good forechecking team and good defensively.

Not comparing them. All but Hronek have been there for years, and at the beginning of the season, expectations were low for both teams. Both teams have exceeded expectations. One more so than the other.
Vancouver has been very broken..3 coaches in 2 years, and they haven't been able to fix things. Tocchet appears to have.

I vehemently disagree. The Flyers absolutely would not have to win the Metro for Torts to get a nomination. Completely wrong. If the Flyers make the playoffs Torts gets nominated. Hands down....book it Dano!! If the Flyers were to win a tough Metro division he basically is a shoe in to win the award! That Vancouver roster underachieved under BB for whatever reason. They have a much more talented roster than the Flyers. Thanks!

Explain how he is doing more with less. Torts has lots of highly regarded around the NHL young players on his team. Vancouver does too, they are just older. So, they have struggled for longer, and Tocchet has righted the ship. Multiple coaches have tried in Vancouver and failed. Vancouver was not supposed to be in the playoff picture this year...they are first in the league...Vancouver has 8 more points in 2 extra games than Philly. They are exceeding expectations by a far margin. So is Philly, but this is as unexpected to even the most optimistic Vancouver fans as the Flyers are to Flyers fans.

If the Flyers make the playoffs, he will win his 3rd Jack Adam's award.

- jd250

You actually believe that if Vancouver continues, and stays a top team in the league that Torts will win? You are smarter than that, aren't you? Or if Boston continues, that Monty won't be up for the Jack Adams again?
