But what if he had already told them to stop. That he was not interested in the gong show that was. And he saw them showing up as a pressure tactic in his gold medal moment. What if he already had felt disrespected by the team telling him to stay in college, and the bad feelings have just grown since then. What if the Flyers had already been told he wouldn't meet with them in the future as he has no interest in playing there, and they still showed up to talk...so much we will never know.
Speculation goes both ways. - TheFreak
Even if he did, so what? Be a man and show some respect to the team that saw enough in you to draft you with a very high pick that was extremely important to the future of the franchise. Meet with them and talk to them, especially when they travel overseas to do so. How is a player disrespected by a team giving guidance and what they feel is best for his development? Does that sound like a player you want to have faith in? He's that entitled at what, 19?
The Flyers should've just given up and not attempted to meet with him?
Gauthier comes off looking like a putz here. |

If he’s that mentally soft then they dodged a bullet imo.
Kid either fully bought into a franchise run by Hakstol and only Hakstol ( )
Or he’s getting bad advice. And we know how that goes. - hereticpride
He should fit in well with Zegras, the kid has amazing skill, but I don't see anything more than Daigle. Not in the terms of bust, but desire to play the game. Daigle was also super skilled.

Next year 2025.
Jiricek or Drysdale and a 2nd? - Glak18 Oh, that kind of sucks. Would of been a nice high second rounder this year. Might not be so high of a pick next year.

ok..so what about Krug in the summer? He would not accept a trade to Philly....now one of our top prospects says he won't play here.... - TheFreak
Did Krug not accept the trade because he didn't want to play for the Flyers or because he wanted to stay with the Blues? Even if he did, that's two players out of how many over how many years?

Everyone is taking the Flyers word on everything they have said so far. Flyers have always been a straight forward organization. Flyers in full protection mode.
Will CG respond to confirm or deny any of it? Probably not anytime soon. More than likely when he signs with the Ducks it will come out. 2 side to every story. - furio16
Short of the Flyers threatening to bury this kids career he doesn’t really have a leg to stand on. Whatever his spin is, it’s going to still look like a “Cutter problem” and not a “Flyers problem” |

Well Anaheim is probably going to be getting rid of some high priced vets in the offseason and maybe going younger...that's recipe for being worse.

Remember the rumors of Torts moving upstairs? Maybe not so far fetched. - TheFreak
I'm not going to dive into drama and conspiracy theories. To me it really doesn't matter why he didn't want to play here. He comes off as an entitled spoiled punk.

I cannot imagine why a player like Krug at 32 wouldn’t want to get traded to a rebuilding team at the very beginning of the process. It’s unfathomable |

Yes. Based on what we know right now, Gauthier looks like an entitled tool right now. Not a good look. Might not matter at all in terms if his career, but right now he looks like a Jack ass. |

This kid is behaving like someone who is feeling disrespected by the franchise, so it’s either:
1. He hates Torts.
2. The organization failed to contact him after regime change
3. promised him something and didn’t follow though
Or
4. He thinks he was disrespected when the Flyers picked Michkov as he sees himself as a 1C and that affects his future earnings.
Think this is bad? Wait until Russia won’t let Michkov leave. - darkerens
He made it known at WJC last year. Nothing to do with michkov.

They would have almost 40 million in cap space to take on some contracts..sign some UFA's...they should be better than this year. we'll see. |

When the player you drafted 5th overall tells you I don’t want to play for you, that looks bad. To say otherwise is odd to me.
Now you have people saying wow he didn’t want to play for the Flyers. What’s going on over there? Starts to bring more attention to a fledgling team. |

Or maybe the opinion of the Flyers, how they have just treaded water for the last 20 years, misuse talent, are clueless with certain aspects of the cap etc, he just wanted nothing to do with the franchise. Throw in Torts...it looks bad when a prospect doesn't want to play for you...and his opinion changed after becoming a Flyers draft pick. He wanted to be a Flyer before the draft...a couple months later...wants nothing to do with them. - TheFreak
This is all speculation as well. What if he and his agent decided that he can dictate like fox did and he wants to play in warm weather. What if he likes hunting ducks and thinks their logo is cool. To say that it’s because he hates torts or hates the city of Philly because he once ate a bad cheese steak or hates the fact that they’re rebuilding is random speculation. |

Gauthier would not even tell them why and would not talk to them. He didn't even give the Flyers a chance to understand his side of the story and be able to respond. It looks bad for Gauthier alone. Briere and Jones even went to Sweden to talk with Gauthier and he refused to even take a phone call. Come on man, you can't blame this on the Flyers. - jd250
I’ve been kinda flip flopping as to who looks bad. I can see and I do see both sides of the argument. My first inclination was that the Flyers look bad because this “gold standard” can’t even get a commitment from a top 5 pick. However, this is mighty odd that the kid, his family, or his “people” just flat out ignored contact from an NHL GM and POHO after they traveled across the globe to meet with him. Not to mention, the front office of the team that drafted him. The more I look at this, the more it looks bad for Cutter and his people. He looks childish and insolent. The fact (if true) that he completely ignored the Flyers and wouldn’t even discuss things with them makes him the bad guy in all of this. I mean a professional or at least mature-minded player would at least sit down and say “Mr Briere, Mr. Jones, I really don’t want to play for your team. I would appreciate it if you would trade my rights because I do t want to sign with you”. Instead, he ignored them. Yeah, good luck Anaheim. You may have just acquired the next Pierre Luc Dubois.
Regardless I’m juiced about acquiring Drysdale. |
