Essentially every player who is signed with a team really wants to play with that team.
Including Ryan Ellis. Remember that deer-in-the-headlights interview?
Pronman or was it Wheeler, mentioned a valid point. Flyers are shrinking: Frost, TK, MM, Drysdale, Brink, Farabee. All smallish/shortish players. - PT21
I do agree that the Flyers have gotten smaller and I do agree there is some issue to this, even with the bite they’ve shown this year. The Power play for example. Rocky Thompson does need to get results but we have been missing a legitimate quarterback, which the Flyers may have just fixed. The other issue is that big strong staple in the crease for tips and rebounds that always made the Flyers successful. We’re absolutely missing that Kurr, LeClair, Knuble, Hartnell, Simmonds or JvR. Not just anyone can do it. |

Again, why do 99.9% of the players who are good enough to earn a contract, make the same personal choice to sign with the team that drafted them. Why do so few make the opposite choice? For obvious reasons why. Those answers put you on the right side of this. - MJL
Don't talk to me like that. Being condescending dosn't prove your point.
The player can choose to sign or not. It is his perogative...I don't really care what most prospects do...they do it because they want to play..Gauthier wanted to as well, but the Flyers CHOSE not to sign him at the time. and then He chose he wanted elsewhere.
It's his choice, and it is not wrong. |

You, was not intended to refer to you personally. Apologize for the poor phrasing.

He can choose to and it's not illegal but it's definitely wrong. Most sign with the team that drafted them because they know it's the right thing to do. Teams all the time make decisions that affect players. Where they play, how much money they make. Gauthier was wrong in my opinion to act as he did. It is his choice and it is wrong. We're obviously not going to agree on this. I don't think there is any more I can add between us. |

It seems to be a pretty beneficial arrangement for both sides so where does its a female dog to push back come from? - MJL
It’s human nature to rebel.

My mind is still blown that Danny also got the 2nd rounder. With no conditions on it either.
Given the bizarre circumstances I absolutely love this trade. |

Reinbacher. Then Michkov at seven because the Flyers already knew Arizona wasn't taking MM.

Yes. That’s a good addition. Especially in view of the fact that it might be like 40th overall. That’s pretty important. |

If a certain behavior rarely happens and it is clearly outside of the spirit of the game and a sense of right and wrong. It's obviously wrong. - MJL
Get your head around it. It was not wrong. He had the right to say he wouldn't sign. That is his choice. Why is this so hard for you?
It doesn't happen a lot because that's how the overwhelming majority of players feel.
Anaheim traded for him because the GM covets the player. He tried to trade up to draft Gauthier. I think what Gauthier did was wrong but I don't think he should be black balled by the rest of the league for this. - MJL
As you would say..where did you get this info, and I want to read the "proof" this is true. Or is this just your opinion? Show me how this is wrong, when the CBA allows for this exact thing to happen. It has happened multiple times in the last 10 years...only this time to us.

My understanding of the explanation was that they would have taken Reinbacher at #5, and then Michkov at #7. I guessing They knew Arizona was going to take Simashev because of the circumstances of him letting it be known he didn't even want to talk to Arizona.
I don't know this for fact, just extrapolating from what was reported. I think the Flyers were more worried about Montreal taking Michkov than anything else.

I think Briere felt pressure to explain the reason for the trade — especially considering Jamie Drysdale isn't as much of a household name like Cutter was for this fanbase, most especially concerning he literally put up an insane performance in the World Juniors.
Most die-hard Flyers fans were super stoked about Cutter and hoping he'd perhaps join the big club after the Frozen Four. Long term I know a lot of Flyers fans were envisioning the next decade and a half dominated with the dynamic duo of Cutter and Mishkov in the orange and black. - Pixote Andolini
To me, they seem to be lumbering towards the Giroux era (post Richards/Carter). The excessive expectations. The savior mentality. The absence of a clear plan to build around him, and as such, the surrounding of him with good but not good enough players.
Couturier, though I understand his intangibles, and his solid play, is on pace for a below 58 point season. He will have 6 more years with a NMC when MM comes. Shades of the Hartnell contract? |

Talking about being condescending,. It was absolutely wrong in my opinion to do what he did. To ghost the team and not be willing to talk with them. I don't care if he had the right. The Flyers had the right to let him sit and stew. To put his NHL career on hold. If they had done so, I would label that as wrong.

Where did I get this info from that the overwhelming majority of players that are good enough to earn a contract, sign with the teams that drafted them? Seriously?
Multiple times in the last 10 years? How many times? Now compare that to the times it didn't happen in the last 10 years.
Here you go, here is information on every single NHL player in the NHL who is signed to a contract. As well as those players on the AHL and in juniors. You can look at every player and see if they were drafted, who they originally signed with.

Cutter Gauthier’s advisers and agents with more statements | The Philadelphia Inquirer:
“We think that this is just a private matter and needs to stay private,” said Gauthier’s advisers. “But, on the other hand…when a college player is drafted by an NHL team, there’s no entitlement by that team.”
“People will be upset with Cutter for his whole career. But as you know, in pro sports, you can’t please everybody.”
WTF does that even mean? |

You say this often, but to me at least, it seems the paradigm for a successful pp has changed. It is no longer park your skates in front of goalie, suffer the brutal x-checks on back like Leclair/Knuble, and then score on the tip/rebound from crease. The modern pp is much more mobile. Players constantly changing positions, moving east west a lot, lots more active passing (not just back and forth like the Provy-Giroux model). Higher fraction of goals scored from greater distance.
I could be misguided though. Maybe I just tend to watch the wrong teams. |

It means even though you showed faith in me and drafted me 5th overall, I don’t owe you a thing. I should be able to decide exactly where I play. Very bold for a player that has never played an nhl game but I guess other have done it. The more I hear the more I hope he falls flat in Anaheim. |

It’s particularly hilarious because he’s not even anywhere near the talent level of numerous players who have happily gone to down franchises in recent years.
This kid is going to bounce around the league from team to team over his career just chasing paychecks. Book it. |
