Listened to the game, have it on my DVR to watch when I get home.
Good teams find a way to win. Make no mistake, this team has several areas of need in both play & personnel.....but as I've said several times (as have others), this is a good team. No, we're not going to cruise through to the SCF, but this team could surprise some folks. Oddly enough, there seems to be more adjustment in-game and the team d-scheme is starting to click (was it Blue, Sven, H2 or who mentioned that a while ago?), and Lyon's coming up big. Losing Kane could've been the death knell for this team, but there's an underlying current of pride that's pushing the guys to excell. I'm still of the opinion that SCPO WC #2 is a chance....this schedule is brutal, and we're still a good D, solid C, and stud 1B away from making a deep run this year. But it's gonna be DAMN fun to watch.
Catching up from the past couple of posts:
- Amazon Prime? Makes me fell all kinda Charleston Heston-like (Soylent Green is PEEEEEEEEPLE!!!!").
- I'd still push for Hanafin, then Lindholm. Not sure where a 1B G comes from (Augie's a bit away, Cossa's playing MUCH better.....we're still 2-3yrs away from 1 of them in the NHL.....).
GREAT game. Huge hearts. Love this team. Still some work required to make a deep run.

Oh, best pick-ups......
- Perron; a tick slower, but leads by example every day, aside from his suspension.
- Debrincat; duh.
- Walman; stud, does the hard things as easily as the simple things, works every game.
- Sprong; insane awareness, pin-point shot, uses the body.
- Lyon; impressed so far, mentally as tough as anyone I've watched play this game, great lateral movement, rebound control is incredible.
- Kane; massive experience has calmed this team down, PP is much more refined & patient, passing seems more efficient and precise, there's a silent cockieness about this team when he's playing....hard to explain the intangibles this guy brings to the table, a natural leader. Some people have "it"; the ability to elevate those with whom the person comes in contact, brutally honest, takes ownership of their failures, mentors the team and demands people step up. I've served with some impressive leaders in the Army. The best weren't loud or obnoxious; they performed calmly under pressure, were gallant in their exploits, under-wrote failures and passed on praise directed at them.....so the TEAM got the praise. Some awesome (truly jaw-dropping) leaders in combat share those traits with VERY few athletes.....Kane is one of those guys that is the epitome of professional. He's humble, demanding without being degrading....he's generational with the intangibles. *BLUE; interested in your thoughts on what I wrote*.....He needs to be a Wing for the rest of his career, and there are a mere few that I wouldn't give up to retain him. It's hard to put into words what I see in this guy, hope I made it make sense, however.
Not sure how far back to go, so gonna limit it to guys I see now that have elevated the team. We've a good team, needs some work, but I'd take this team against damn near any other on the ice today; at their best, they're scary good. |

Um... yeah okay. The Wings took this win from Florida. Cry me a river. How about that crappy call in the first period where only Compher went to the box. Both players should have went to the box. Quit whining. |

Miserable officiating...ok...how about miserable crew on TNT.... they talked throughout and sometimes touched on the actual game....not to mention they continuously made Florida out to be some perennial powerhouse...... terrible.....the fame itself was well played by both teams, both fought hard and played to win... the Wings looked good and for the life of me I can't understand still what took so long to get Lyon in the net.... |

Make no mistake... LaLonde is dumb enough that he'll put Husso right back in as the starter as soon as he's healthy enough to play again. I have no doubt about that. And it will cost us games and probably a playoff berth. I hope I'm wrong... maybe he's finally gotten a clue that his job is to ice the best team available. And not always play the overpaid Husso who's making more money. If he values his job he better keep playing Lyon.
I have to admit that Rasmussen had a really good game. That redirection / tip-in was awesome. And he was in the middle of every scrum... and it's when he's angry that he throws his weight around and gets under the other team's skin. LaLonde needs to drill it into these players' heads that they need to screen the the other team's goalie at every opportunity and make his life miserable. I do see Fischer doing more of that lately. Usually the only player you see doing it is Perron... we need more guys doing it.. especially on the PP. |

From the radio broadcast, sounded like both teams were chippy but the refs let them play out some of it, some of it they didn't....Sounded evenly crappy officiating, more commonly called: NHL game.
Lyon deserved a shot, took full advantage of it and has helped drag this team into a SCPO spot. No earthly reason why it took so long. As soon as Husso blew a few games, he should've been given a chance. Lalonde dorked that up, big time. Would love to hear what the heck he was thinking.....bet he'd sound like a politican with his hand caught in the cookie jar...... Just unfathomable to have let us lose so many games (potential wins....). |
