This isn't a political issue so dispense with that nonsense. This is about human decency and the law. - MJL
I agree with you. One thing I will say is that there is a tendency here in Canada for someone who has been accused of something, being blacklisted even if/after they may be found not guilty or not culpable. Not sure if it’s the same down there. For the high profile nhl, I can’t see anyone taking a chance on these guys even after due process is done, or if they were to be found not guilty due to the nature of the charges.
While it’s unfortunate, I can’t imagine they don’t have solid cases against them all and I think that this isn’t going to end well for them. |

My personal definition of “woke” is doing or thinking something completely illogical in either direction completely at the opposite end of whatever spectrum usually in disregard for facts or logic and almost always at the expense of one’s best interest. The newly formed term for overreaction to an event or situation or a scenario. Usually used in political or social terms. Usually resulting in actions of illogical thinking - Stayin alive
My definition is applying current sensibilities or standards to past events or cultural norms, entertainment, music etc and judging them by those standards and not the standards of the day.
Acting like you would have been better/morally superior had you lived in that time than the people who lived then. - MBFlyerfan
I thought the term “woke” was to describe racial injustice. As Bill Burr stated, the term was stolen from black people. |

Omg. 100% no way. His career here and likely in the nhl is over unless there’s some nuance I’m missing. If all five are charged equally with sexual assault, that’s it for his career in the nhl . |

Not to mention, you think Bryz was a distraction, wait til you’re on the road in the playoffs and 20,000 people start chanting rapist whenever he touches a puck… - hereticpride
The old Billy Tibbetts "no means no" chant. I was at a Chicago Wolves game back in '05-06 and the crowd was still doing that chant every time he hit the ice.

I’ve been here longer, why don’t you take a hike?
The facts are police do not usually summon 5 white pro athletes to their station to face charges if they didn’t have all the evidence they needed to take it all the way. How's that for facts? Or should I just stand by and pray for Carter? - FloHaake
police dont usually summon 5 black, 3 Asian and 2 Arabian athletes either |

This is a well stated pov. I still think its not all of what woke means. I would say there is good woke and bad woke.
Some people have the capacity to see beyond their own lives, and empathize with very different others who might be getting less than their due. It doesn't have to be race/gender. It could be animal right campaigners, for example. Much social progress in our lives has happened because these woke folks supported struggles. Lot of the civil rights movements had white supporters.
Then there are others who don't really act about the underlying issues. They just want to feel superior and complain and so on. I put Harry and Megan in this category.
The problem is that the dishonest and the lazy use the stereotypes of the second kind to attack the first kind as well. |

Jeez, I do hope folks give Carter Hart his due presumption of inocence. Seems like a lot of you have tarred and feathered him already. |

his behavior over the years isn't the most reassuring - 2Real
It hasn't been. I am just sickened to my stomach by the whole event. Even more so, at the thought that I have been defending him as innocent, when he might be involved after all. He even came out and said he wasn't involved and was working with authorities, like most players said. I took him for his word.
I am sickened and disgusted, and also disappointed that yet again, somehow the Flyers are caught in the middle of all of this. Why does it seem like one of the 5 just had to be a Flyer? No the Flyers aren't responsible for his actions, but I also wonder how much the team knew, and has known about the investigation, and the level of Harts involvement. |

The Flyers you have to think knew a lot and the severity of the situation. |

Civil rights activism isn’t woke. Wanting special treatment for something is. DEI is being pushed in the military, the medical field, and even airlines.
Do you want your brain or heart surgeon to be the best in his or her field or because they check off a box for diversity?
When boomer age pilots retire and two diversity hires are flying and landing your plane are you going to be all in?
Ben Carson I would welcome as my brain surgeon any day. Fauci as head of a medical institution no.
We can see how well diversity hires have work at Harvard and for the vice presidency.

Me too. The season seems like it is quickly coming off the rails. I really can't see the team holding on and staying in the playoffs with these developements. If Hart is involved and one of the five, he deserves everything coming his way. As a fan, I also am plssed about losing an assett that seemed to have value at a position that is in short supply around the league. Losing a starting goalie entering his prime for nothing hurts. He also seemed to be the most experienced of the NHL players that are all on leave....probably the most established and proven as a player. I think more will also gets charges...if for no other reason than not stopping what was going on or calling authorities. Any and all that were present in that room is guilty of helping what happened to that girl, and they all should be charged appropriately. |

Oh Jesus Christ seriously. No one. I mean no one, outside of the investigating body has any information or facts or evidence. Please all of you STOP with passing judgement. If Hart or others are charged and convicted in a fair trial then by all means condemn them. But until anyone knows the “truth whole truth and nothing but the truth” please stop coming to conclusions. Hart might be guilty of something horrible. Hart might not be guilty of anything. The same goes for all other alleged codefendants. Let the process work. This isn’t a debate on who is the better goalie or who should wear the “C” or who’s wrong, the Flyers or Gauthier, this is real and serious. Reserve your judgement until YOU know the facts. |

You read his post wrong. He clearly said IF Hart is involved. Meaning he actually took part on the sexual assault. That's not passing judgment. He also said everyone involved in the sexual assault should pay a price. He didn't proclaim Hart as guilty.

I did say:
If Hart is involved and one of the five, he deserves everything coming his way.
I did not pass judgement. I did not say he is guilty, I said IF he is involved.....you said basically the same thing bolded above...!?!?!?!?!? I am still gutted and shocked about him even being mentioned to being one of the 5...
They wouldn't have told the 5 to come in if they weren't pressing charges. The police have spoken to every player that was on that team before. Is Hart's leave just a coincidence? |
