That more pertains to real estate than a pro athlete. How could the teams be prepared for this.

Do you think it would be a standard question:
"Have you ever been involved in any gangbang rape situation in a hotel with other players from a national team that hasn't been reported yet and has been swept under the rug with buyouts from a major cooperation, only to possibly see it become an issue in 10 years where we could possibly lose our investment for nothing?"

The teams would have no way of protecting themselves in this case.

All contracts have morality clauses. Being arrested for sexual assault violates that regardless of when it occurred. That is pretty standard stuff.

Frost has 11 points in his last 10 games.
- MJL

All he needed was ample minutes and linemates to start finishing chances off. He's been the best forward at creating chances the entire season and now that process is turning into production. All those people who laughed about expected points are eating their hats now (or in some cases, doubling down on stupid).

You’ll know soon enough….the 5 guys I mentioned have been ordered to surrender to the London police to face charges.

ok, so let's have a discussion...how can you say this? There has never been anything like this before in the history of NHL player contracts. Most of the players are 25-26...I can't see teams walking away and being ok with it. If Colorado lost Makar, who was part of the team, you don't think they would want at least a token draft pick?

None of the players involved where signed yet, So they did this before signing their contracts. Does that change the contract termination? Does the NHL make an exception for this? There is just so much unknown to this whole situation.
If London Police had enough to charge 6 players due to videos and pics on phones, testimony, statements, etc, then the NHL should have enough. But can the NHL realease anything and suspend anyone involved without charges, and why haven't the charges happened?

If you, me and 6 friends gang banged a drunk woman in a hotel room, video recorded it, sent pics out, etc...would it take almost a decade for charges to be laid? Nope..it would be a couple of months at best, and we would be already part way through our sentence by now.

Some things just don't add up.

- TheFreak

I would imagine it would be the same as if a player committed any crime and the NHL suspended them. Should the Bruins be compensated with anything if Milan Lucic gets convicted of a crime?

Did they provide the five names in the article?

No. But that will be public record really shortly.

I wondered this? Even despite being before the contract signed?

Well looks like we're getting some traction.

Five members of the 2018 world junior hockey team have been told to surrender to London, Ont., police to face charges of sexual assault, according to two sources.

The pending charges are connected to an alleged group sexual assault of a woman in a hotel room. The incident occurred following a Hockey Canada fundraising gala in June, 2018, where the players were honoured for their win at the world junior championships.

The players, who have not been charged yet, have been given a set period of time to present themselves at London police headquarters, according to two sources with knowledge of the investigation who The Globe is not naming because they have not been authorized to speak on the case.

The timing with this and Hart leaving yesterday does not look very good. I have defended Hart since this first broke, saying he is not the type, a good stand up kid...I thought he had released a statement saying he wasn't involved and left before anything like that happened. But the timing of all of this has me second guessing everything

Surrendering to the London, ON police.
Hart won’t be playing any time soon, if at all.

Ersson will now turn into a pumpkin. That is guaranteed.

- PLindbergh31

If he’s one of the 5. He’s apparently being charged. That’s not the same as a conviction and with the way things work here could be pleaded down depending on the severity of his actions.

No, I get that...I meant as far as losing the assett they have put millions into, just to lose for nothing.

It is an unprecedented situation

Not really. Frost created his own standard last season and it took time to see it this season. The scratches haven’t been an excuse since before the Cates injury. Frost coming around is great. He deserves credit but he can’t be a second half player every year and you can’t always blame his linemates.

Hart is a good kid. Let’s just see what the actual facts are. Is he tied up in this? Did he make a stupid decision as an 17 year old? I’m not going to tar and feather a kid/young adult until I see the facts of the case.

The facts of the case have been public for a long time.

The only thing that wasn't public were the names of those involved.

Yes, Drysdale's shot was deflected which is why it got past Vasey.

I had no idea who that was, but I would guess not by your question.
The Rangers were given a draft pick when their First round pick died and never got to play for them.
It was just a conversation I heard on Sportsnet radio in Vancouver ...it got me thinking.

The investigation is complete. An independent panel investigated and gave their findings to Hockey Canada back in the fall. In their view several players were in violation of the bodies code of conduct. At that time before their more complete findings were to be made public there was an appeal made to the findings. That process was to begin a while back.
As far as the police involvement they have the report and feel that 5 of the 8 that were involved could rise to the level of criminal charges. A major problem is the female involved has moved on with her life and wants no part of this.
Until that portion is resolved or the report is changed (pending the appeals process) or released its status quo.
At this point I think it’s unfair to suggest this is what the issue is with Hart. It obviously does not look good or paint him in a positive light. But until the facts are released I’ll reserve judgement.
All I’ve ever seen with Hart is a solid young kid who has grown into a very good NHL player.

- landros 2

100% correct. Victim was made whole through settlement. Woke nhl will likely bow to wokism when report released and try some action against players currently in nhl. And I hope they get sued to the heavens.

It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about the players involved. This happened before they were in the league. The only one that matters is the VICTIM and she settled. The matter involving her and the players is closed.

It’s joke. Everyone always assumes the worst about things and people. We see more benefit of the doubt for people we only watch play hockey every other day than people we know in our everyday lives.

Not true. You can’t go back in time. Before contract signed. Is it moral to steal? So terminate a contract because a video comes out a player stole a candy bar when they were 8 years old?
