I will reserve judgement until I see the names of the players. Innocent until proven guilty. Too many good men have been charged with rape , lives destroyed only for the woman to recant her story or there was actually no evidence to support the rape claim.

There was a rape we just don't know what part if any Hart had in it. I refuse to specualte.

It’s joke. Everyone always assumes the worst about things and people. We see more benefit of the doubt for people we only watch play hockey every other day than people we know in our everyday lives.

If it is indeed related to his physical/illness issues, the team needs to get out in front of it so we don't have to deal with the insane Corey Perry type speculation.

Not true. You can’t go back in time. Before contract signed. Is it moral to steal? So terminate a contract because a video comes out a player stole a candy bar when they were 8 years old?

They can't play hockey if they're in prison. Pretty easy to terminate a contract to play hockey at that point.

Police laying charges of sexual assault is now "woke".
- Feanor

You should see what some of our beloved regulars said over in the article about Hart's absence on the main page. Rape and sexual assault aren't political issues, and the fact that folks are turning it into a political issue says quite a bit about them.

If the team wanted to they could. Those clauses are pretty broad.

Also, he is getting arrested for it now. The arrest almost assuredly violates the morality clause.

100% correct. Victim was made whole through settlement. Woke nhl will likely bow to wokism when report released and try some action against players currently in nhl. And I hope they get sued to the heavens.

It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about the players involved. This happened before they were in the league. The only one that matters is the VICTIM and she settled. The matter involving her and the players is closed.

- Stayin alive

Correct, Canada hockey had the case swept under the carpet, and it was not the first time. When the case came to the public eye, a new investigation was formed. The victim has no part in the new investigation.

I had no idea who that was, but I would guess not by your question.
The Rangers were given a draft pick when their First round pick died and never got to play for them.
It was just a conversation I heard on Sportsnet radio in Vancouver ...it got me thinking.

- TheFreak

Im not arguing with you, im retorting from the stance that teams are owed nothing due to unfortunate circumstances unless its explicitly contained in the CBA and or league bylaws

A lot of probably them wouldn't exist if marital rape wasn't legal up until the 70s and 80s.

You heard it here first folks. Victims are made whole by money settlement. They can now move forward in their lives problem free.

Unfortunately Hockey Canada used funds provided mainly by the government/association $ to pay the hush money. When that went public the story was never going to go away. From everything said the Victim just wants to move on…who can blame her. Just a bad situation all the way around.

The facts of the case have been public for a long time.

The only thing that wasn't public were the names of those involved.

- Tomahawk

Unfortunately, the timing looks very bad and it’s likely that this is what’s going on. I suspect if he is charged that he would have to be suspended by the nhl until the case gets through the courts.

They have not officially named the five players but they are supposed to turn themselves in to authorities. It is assumed Hart is one of the five players. Did I read that wrong?

Yes 100% it is….
If “the victim” DOESNT want charges filed (she settled the matter to HER satisfaction) as SHE saw fit. That is the ONLY opinion in the matter that actually matters.

The police have no business laying charges if the victim doesn’t want it.

With Risto collecting minuses again, and Tippett out, I just don't understand why Brink isn't in the lineup, and with solid minutes.

If he’s one of the 5. He’s apparently being charged. That’s not the same as a conviction and with the way things work here could be pleaded down depending on the severity of his actions.
- landros 2

He has not been charged, the 5 were asked to present themselves to the Ontario police within a given time period. I do find it interesting that hockey Canada has been dealing with these allegations since 1989 and that over the years it has paid out settlements in 21 sexual misconduct cases since then. The person at the center of this allegation from 2018 had a settlement also, but apparently the initial issue was where Hockey Canada was getting the money from to pay out these settlements, but now its focused on the players involvement. The timing of this leave is pretty telling. If Hart is involved in this, that's awful.

This has been a very trying time for the Flyers organization, with Cutter wanting to leave and now this. I wonder if the two are related in some way?

the silence on their end is disappointing. All they have to say is this isn't WJC related, respect his privacy

I would say the statement by Briere pretty much confirms this is WJC related.

Briere did not offer an alternate reason for the leave of absence during his presser. So I am assuming the worst.
