You heard it here first folks. Victims are made whole by money settlement. They can now move forward in their lives problem free.

That sir is very true. If they CHOOSE that. She could have also chose another path.

Interesting that she is reported to want nothing to do with this anymore isn’t it. Kinda like she moved on?

If Hart never plays for the Flyers again that leaves good old Steve Mason with more starts, more wins, and a much higher SV% as a Flyer goalie.

This covers the last 25 years, starting with the season after Hexy retired.

If the team wanted to they could. Those clauses are pretty broad.

Also, he is getting arrested for it now. The arrest almost assuredly violates the morality clause.

- mickel25

Being arrested doesn’t violate morality clause. Being convicted yes. Teams will be sued if they try to terminate contract because of an arrest.

Briere did not offer an alternate reason for the leave of absence during his presser. So I am assuming the worst.

They can't play hockey if they're in prison. Pretty easy to terminate a contract to play hockey at that point.
- Feanor

That’s different than being implicated in a report or charges filed without trial.

The logical legal move by nhl should be paid suspension until outcome

Does presumption of innocence exist in Canada, or one has to prove one's innocence?

I don't really care so long as he stops taking up a roster spot. He'll never play in Philly again, and he wasn't that good when he was here.

Unfortunately Hockey Canada used funds provided mainly by the government/association $ to pay the hush money. When that went public the story was never going to go away. From everything said the Victim just wants to move on…who can blame her. Just a bad situation all the way around.
- landros 2

Hockey Canada big mistake was not owning up to it after caught. They were arrogant with holier than tho attitude and that’s what really made the investigation go full force. When you take peoples money in fees and use it to have secret hush funds and then act like they did when caught yeah you (frank)ed

Yes 100% it is….
If “the victim” DOESNT want charges filed (she settled the matter to HER satisfaction) as SHE saw fit. That is the ONLY opinion in the matter that actually matters.

The police have no business laying charges if the victim doesn’t want it.

In other words, you have no idea how the criminal justice system works.

Hey, I murdered someone but they can't say they want charges filed so I get off for free.

Prosecutors decide charges; not victims and not police. Prosecutors file charges and their opinion based on the facts are the only thing that matter to pursuing a conviction.

Or, you can have your system, which is basically just mob justice and whomever complains the most.

The resident Hockey Buzz rape apologist has thoughts, everyone.
- Feanor

First off. From what has been reported it wasn’t rape. Get your facts straight. It was sexual assault. 2 different things.

the silence on their end is disappointing. All they have to say is this isn't WJC related, respect his privacy
- hello it's me 2050

Briere made it clear that the NHL has told the Flyers to send all questions related to this issue to them. The Flyers have no choice but to remain silent.

Yes this is true for sure. I don’t deny that. But usually in most cases involving rape or sexual assault if the victim doesn’t want to press charges or especially if they accept payment agreement charges won’t be filed.

Yes the da can bring charges. Usually does not happen tho. The fact that was all known back then and no charges filed is telling.

If charges filed it’s clearly from pressure from outside as it goes against what is normally done.

Also to consider is the age of people involved minor/adult. Do you now 6 years later charge them as adults when they were minors? To what extent was the crime? These are all factors. Surely they were considered back then? To now 6 years later try to adjust that?

This stinks of wokism. And I’m not defending the actions of what happened. It almost seems like a distraction of why there was a deeper investigation.

Like players are the sacrificial lambs for hockey Canada organization.

Amazing that the littlest guy on the team is the meanest guy on the team. He seems like the only Flyer player who both has skill and is physically aggressive.

Napoleon complex? Sometimes those small guys are like that.

He has not been charged, the 5 were asked to present themselves to the Ontario police within a given time period. I do find it interesting that hockey Canada has been dealing with these allegations since 1989 and that over the years it has paid out settlements in 21 sexual misconduct cases since then. The person at the center of this allegation from 2018 had a settlement also, but apparently the initial issue was where Hockey Canada was getting the money from to pay out these settlements, but now its focused on the players involvement. The timing of this leave is pretty telling. If Hart is involved in this, that's awful.

This has been a very trying time for the Flyers organization, with Cutter wanting to leave and now this. I wonder if the two are related in some way?

- jd250

The investigation is over…lol…they aren’t going to be interviewed they are going in to be charged. As far as Hockey Canada being involved in these types of things for 30 plus years? It’s a (frank)ed up world…there are bad people who do bad things. There are people who make dumb decisions. If these things happen under the Canada hockey umbrella I’m not sure how else they could have changed their approach. It’s a changing world my friend.
If snow Flake Cutter couldn’t see that….no actually I don’t think there a correlation whatsoever.
