People forget that just a couple of years ago TK was considered "inconsistent" and was bounced up and down the lineup, only playing 14-15 mins per game under AV and Hak. He'd "disappear" for weeks. He'd blow coverages, cheat out of the zone. His goals totals dipped. The fanbase was down on him, talking poop on the daily. Very few people were defending him then.
Then G was traded, Coots and Cam injured, and suddenly the Flyers had no choice but to just ride or die w/ TK. He got a poop ton of icetime and better linemates (save for one brief benching), and BAM... he became what he is today. He still isn't perfect but now he's mostly allowed just to be himself.
Sometimes a bit of tough love is good, maybe even required. But also sometimes coaches need to realize that their point's been made and they need to just get out of the (frank)ing way and let a kid play. |

I’m more responding to the “being in Coots ear” criticism. We want accountability until we don’t apparently.
I don’t always agree with Torts or his decisions but I felt this one is just finding things to complain about. - anti-lame
That is a good point and He addressed it by saying that’s a bullet he thought Torts could have saved.
To me Coots is the consummate NHL player who can take that type of coaching. I agree there is a method to the madness and over all am fine with it. If the alternative is to go back to having an accountability issue I think everyone will have to live with Torts methods. |

I find it very interesting...Ristolainen SEEMS to always get an injury or bug when TDL rolls around. I wonder if it's in my head or if there is more to it. Coincidence?
Update: Seems like he always gets banged up in April after TDL - Glak18
you know JVR faked injuries to not be traded also |

Hmmm ... now I recall someone posting right here on this forum these exact words about Frost multiple times over the past two seasons. I wonder who that was ... OH .. IT WAS ME!
Suck on @MJL .. Suck on it! Even Bill, who is Frost's biggest proponent agrees this is a fair assessment. You Failure is Complete! - jd250
You might have repeated what Torts said, but you also leave out all of the positive stuff Frost does. That is my issue with your take.." He's an AHLer", "He deserves to be scratched", " ND deserves to play over Frost", etc, etc...not direct quotes, but the gist of your comments. You claim he is invisible, when he is the most visible guy on the ice....your take is wrong on Frost for the most.
The comment bolded...really? Are you 5?
No one has said Frost plays a perfect game, and he has been critized fairly about certain aspects of his game. However, saying he doesn't belong in the league, judging him shift to shift, instead of a multi game period, and just constantly slamming a skilled player...on a team with limited skill....that is the wrong part of your assessment. |

Bill, he is the same poster that you labeled a fool with the screen name Black Francis. He is using an alt account. Same old foolish nonsense. - MJL
Like, we don’t need this. Okay, some people love Frost, some don’t. We don’t weed people out based on love/hate for one player. |

Who were the better linemates? We were 5th last in the league and Konency was the only real reason to tune in. |

That's the issue I have, or I should say one of the issues that I have with Tortorella. While I certainly don't expect rookies or young players to be treated the same or equally to veterans. I do expect young players to be treated the same in terms of opportunity and standard. Tortorella likes and favors certain types of players and disfavors others. How he treats them differently, is often not rational. He'll cut the ice time or scratch a player for reasons that he'll completely ignore with another player. There is a familiar pattern with Tortorella. When the inevitable ups and downs happen with a young player, we'll see that Tortorella quickly loses patience with some players and then demotes them in the lineup, cuts their ice time and then eventually scratches the player. How he handles the player, greatly contributes to the play losing confidence and not correcting the issues and getting his game back to where it needs to be. Can't improve without opportunity. I could see that and get on board if it was a situation where the team is a contender and you play well or you don't play. That is not the case on this team that is supposedly rebuilding. For as many players that he is given credit for helping develop, he hinders just as many if not more
Then there is Tortorella's flat out hypocrisy. How he stresses communication and developing relationships with players. How he is just as interested in developing the person as much as the player. He is full of crap. We see that is not the case with Frost. How he was not given feedback from the coaches. How he had to go to Tortorella. Tortorella states that he doesn't want to make offensive players into checkers, but it's a two way street. States that he doesn't have the ability or vision that offensive people have. That an offensive player has to give him something away from the puck. We know that Frost has been one of the better forwards away from the puck on the team, yet he was still scratched a doze times and when asked, Tortorella said he has to produce offensively. While a player like Tippett, who at times has been pretty poor away from the puck, has immunity. Foerster doesn't have to produce offensively to stay in the lineup. It's hypocrisy and a double standard
It is certainly true that Tortorella deserves credit for improving this team and it's cohesiveness. Making them into a tight checking team that is hard to play against. He has shown the ability to do that in the past. He's done it here. However is he the right coach to develop young players. To develop this team into a legit cup contender. I say no. I think he has run out of bullets in his coaching bag. He has not shown that he can take a team far in a long, long time. The players like him because they're winning for a change. I don't think that feeling will last. I don't think that the style of play that Tortorella plays will ultimately be a winning style of play for the NHL. He can certainly coach defense and checking. He can't coach offense.
I'm not interested in modest regular season success. That is not enough for me. I'm glad the Flyers are competitive and more fun to watch but that again, is not enough. I don't see him being the right coach for the future of this team. I think the organization sees him as the leader of this franchise. I think that's scary. My wish is for this team to become a legit cup contender. I don't think that happens under Tortorella. I truly hope I'm wrong and you can all ride me telling me I was. I doubt it though.

Jesus Christ. I hope Morgan Frost starts his own kissing booth at this year’s Flyers carnival. Some of you really need this. I’m not nearly as annoyed with the player as I am the people who won’t allow him to endure a single drop of criticism. |

So Konecny is a better offensive player that also played ten more games than Morgan Frost. He should have more scoring chances.
Also, TK has generated 637 scoring chances this year? - mickel25
For sure he has. Single handedly generates over 10 scoring chances a game. |
