He’s not making the $11.5 yet so technically it’s not quite insane for a bit longer lol

And Matthews is solid defensively, I do t worry about him, Marner however isn’t physical, doesn’t block shots, and dances with the bloody puck a bit too much. In the offensive zone sure but in his own zone or around the red line where he skates back towards his net is something he does waaaaaaaay too often tbh.

It’s the coaches job, stop expecting people in their 20s to be non stop mature, that’s simply not how people his age tick.

I’ll never, ever, understand the Marner comparisons at all.

Marner has been nominated for Selkes. Marner is simply on another level both offensively, and especially defensively. People see things however they want I guess. Nylander isn’t middle of the pack defensively, he’s poor. Marner making one bonehead play doesn’t negate all the good stuff he does. His +/- reflects that.

Marner 41 hits, 43 blocks +15

Nylander 22 hits, 18 blocks (+/-)0

Matthews 53 hits, 59 blocks +18

Feels like -12 here in London and we got about 6” of snow last night. But you’re right, it is such a nice day out there I didn’t even mind being outside shovelling and salting everything
- Dozzer

Ya its not "warm" here in milton either but was nice blue skies.

Now its cloudy, but still nice

Tavares (sick), Gio (father passed) and Rielly (goon) all out tonight
- Canada Cup

Just means we get another Matthews hatty on his way to 70 goals.

Marner blocks shots, not all the time but quite a bit. He seemed to be one of the only core 4 to block two playoffs ago

His hits are about as effective as stubbing your toe lightly lol

He’s a dancer with the puck, he’ll get older and begin to lose speed and he’ll get eaten alive in the NHL. Also he’ll be the WAY overpriced winger. He’ll be up around $13 mill is my guess because $11.5 would only be a $600K raise for him. He needs to stop over handling the puck and just start driving into the offensive zone. He simply over handles the puck routinely and his stats are banked up due to being with Matthews, his game was nowhere near what it is now when he was with JT.

I really hope you use environmentally safe salt.

Oh hell I know but I hate giving the figure skating hockey player the acknowledgement. He probably only gets them due to dancing in the right spot every now and then.

Neither Matthews or Marner need each other to produce offence.

Marner had 23 game pts streak last year, much of it without Matthews.

(((🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨)))

I’m live on the phone with one of my sources, a trusted insider, in St Paul Minnesota and it’s just been made known that a trade with the Maple Leafs is imminent. Sheldon Keefe’s obvious displeasure with Nylander last game has some speculating that the Leafs are having second thoughts on giving the defensive-lacking RW’er that massive contract, and they might try to move him before his NMC kicks in. Brad Treliving is firm on demanding Faber as part of the deal, but so far Bill Guerin is unwilling to budge. “We’ll have to see more from the Leafs if Faber is involved” Guerin is rumoured to have said. The Leafs have hinted that they could add more with Treliving be quoted as saying, “we’ll see” when asked if the Leafs are willing to give up more. The Maple Leafs could use centre depth, and that’s leading some to wonder if Eriksson Ek could be involved, so the Leafs could maximize Tavares potential on the wing.

this is funny cause Styles will need to wave his nmc in order to be traded.

lol I’ll be honest, the place we own is out in PEI (Alberton) but we rent in a triplex here in London due to the medical care I need. The landlord supplies everything (including the shovels, mower, weed whacker, salt, etc and knocks our all inclusive rent down to $1000 a month since I’ll happily take care of the outdoors and do things like replace the triple A batteries in the thermostat without hassling him. So he buys the salt and drops it off, so if it’s the poopty kind oh well, I only use it on the sidewalk and not the parking area so it doesn’t drain into the gutter tho

Man if the leafs had stuffed animals made of their players you’d have a Marner one in your damn bed lol

He’s a good player now but as I said once he gets older and begins to lose speed it going to show pretty badly.

Stop being a jackass because I’m not going to handle things the way you think I should. Your opinion flat out does not matter. I’ll delete off topic posts when necessary but I’m not going to ban people for chirping each other. Players in the game of hockey do that all the time and don’t even get a penalty so get the (frank) over it.

But nothing great, never reached 70P. He also was playing with Lecavalier for most of it which played a pretty big role.

I need better sources.

Anyhow, it’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out. The Nylander sagas aren’t over yet. I’m not nit-picking Willy here for no reason. But can we discuss the incident from two night ago? He got the GWG, and that’s great, he’s clutch!

But before that there was a series of events that had Keefe fuming. Is it off-topic to talk about this? There was two horrible turnovers in the first period where Willy either whiffed, or had a brain fart. Ok, no big deal really… but Keefe was livid. Willy then goes out and trucks a guy behind the net, full on charges him. I applaud him in here. He also aggressively won puck battles, and ended up with the GWG (thanks Mitch for your lovely pass).

My question is, why at the age of 27, does Willy need Keefe to reem his ass on the bench? And why can’t he sustain that kind of play? Willy needs an agitator on his line. Clearly the Leafs are seeing issues with his game and they’re letting him know that they’re not letting him get away with it.

I think the plan is, sign him and make him hate being here. Make him play physical, make him block shots. He’ll either change to stay with his buddies, or demand a trade out.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I guarantee you that is not the plan.
They didnt hand out the biggest contract in the teams history just to piss him off and demand trade.
Nothing positive for the leafs comes from that

Ya his career stats aren’t as good as I thought…

Mogilny stayed good late into his career. Datsyuk too.

Cherry picking stats is fun

Expected +/- Giveaways Takeaways
Matthews 18.2 34 53
Nylander 13.6 28 57
Marner 12.8 48 39

Playing with Matthews over the last 2 years skews his wingers' stats in a positive manner
