Sure Hanifan is an upgrade on Grz, but he is also a increase on pay if they wish to retain him. They have about 32M for 12 players including the need for a 1C. They would be wiser to use their assets and potential space for an upgrade there than their 2-3D when their d is already a strength. - wreckage
The next 2 weeks will bring us all the answers I guess.
Grz is a pending UFA and is making 3.687... whats his next deal worth 5 mil?
Swayman is a pending RFA and is in line for a big payday too.... no way they keep him and Ulmark so that will free up more $ for them. Debrusk and Looch will be gone too so they have some flexibility your not factoring in. |

the Penguins adding Karlsson to a team with Letang. It's money that should be spent elsewhere.
I can see them wanting a depth guy on the back end, but I doubt they bring in anyone more expensive than a Tanev type. - Squeaky
Inaccurate analogy. Penguins are spending LESS on Karlsson, Eller, and Joseph than they were with Petry, Granlund, Rutta for no worse collective results at the respective roles. |

So the Penguins didn't give up a first and a second in those trades? Karlsson isn't on the books for twice as long as everyone they traded away? They're not paying two old defencemen 16 million until 2027?
There were lots of ways the Penguins could've improved in the off-season. Getting a offence only defenceman was last on the list. |

You're moving the goalposts from cap expenditure to future assets because you looked it up and realized I was correct. The Karlsson trade won't start costing more cap hit until 2026 at which time PIT will be rebuilding regardless so inconsequential. PIT is 27th in GF/G and 4th in GA/G. So clearly you're painfully ignorant on the team's issues because offense- not defense- is their problem. |

Looch is already off their books as he will remain on the ineligible list, players assistance program for the remainder of the year. And the money coming off from Jake is included in the 32M for 12 players I mentioned. The Bruins have 20.1M committed to 3 Dmen for next year, 2 of which have trade protection. They need value contracts in their d corps now, not another big contract. |

Sorry to disappoint you. I’ve been painting another rental suite on our property in Sayulita.
Flames sucked a$$ last night, trades can’t happen fast enough.
Canucks losing 4-2 to the Jets is so much more respectable. Not sure if you’re smart enough to realize that they both count as L’s? Anyways you keep being you! - K-man25
Flames need to go through a mini-tear down and get ready to be in the PO's for the new Arena. That should be the focus. Follow the Oilers model like they did under Tippett and get that team in the PO's when the new rink is built. It can be done. Markstrom-Tanev (like you were warned lol) Huberdeau Kadri Mangopie should all be gone. Might need to take on a few crappy contracts to shed some salary but if Conroy pulled his head out of his ass and got this done he'd be in Hollands class. Not to be lol |

Can someone refresh me why or what Brad’s reasoning was for using a first round pick to get rid of Monahan? Was there no other way without wasting a first rounder? What was wrong with keeping him until he got healthy? |

No cap space. Wanted to sign Kadri. It was Brad, he was fighting for his job and didn’t give a crap about the future. |

Daniel Tkaczuk, Rico Fata, Oleg Saprykin, Brent Kahn, Chuck Kobasew, Eric Nystrom, Dion Phanuef, Chris Chucko, Matt Pelech, Leland Irving, Michael Backlund, Greg Nemisz, Tim Erixon, Sven Baertschi, Mark Jankowski, Morgan Klimchuk, Emile Poirier, Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, Matthew Tkachuk, Juuso Valikmaki, Jakob Pelletier, Connor Zary, Matt Coronato, and Samuel Honzek. Those are all the Flames 1st round picks since 97. I'd say you can't judge about 4 of them and they hit on about 7 of them. That makes 14 failures. Not really reaching.
Still wondering where my "reaching" is from here?
2 guys got heavy on me for my criticism of their drafting. Show me where I am wrong in their 1st round selections over the years. They have either given up or failed on most successful, been forced to move one or another, or the others aren't proven yet. A few exceptions in there. - wreckage
For fck sakes! What is your point & why throw rocks? Lets look at the last 15 years:
Oilers Flames
2023 no pick Honzek 16th
2022 Schaufer 32 (traded) No pick
2021 Bagault 22 Coronato 13th
2020 Holloway 14th Zary 24th
2019 Broberg 8th Pelletier 26th
2018 Bouchard 10th No pick
2017 Yamato 22nd (traded) Valamaki 16th (Suttered & lost)
2016 Puljarvi 4th (gifted away) Tkachuk 6th (Traded)
2015 McDavid 1st no pick
2014 Draisatyl 3rd Bennett 4th (traded fcking Tre)
2013 Nurse 7th Monahan 6th (traded fcking Tre)
Porrier 22nd (Waste)
Klimchuk 28th (waste)
2012 Yakupov 1st (gifted gone) Jankowski 21st (not qualified)
2011 Hopkins 1st Baertsche 13th (traded)
2011 Klefblom 19th LTIR
2010 Hall 1st (traded) no pick
2009 Paajarvi 10th Erixon 23rd
Thats just a comparison of how damn many top 10 picks Oilers have had (10 in the last 15 years) versus the Flames a whole whopping 3. All 3 of our top 10 are in the league playing pretty good. Easy to throw rocks but why when you have over 3 times the top 10 picks including 6 in the top 4 versus Flames having 1.
So why are you listing all these first round picks Flames have when almost 50% of them are in the twenties. Each team has only been to the Stanley Cup finals once each in the last 20 years. What does that say? So criticize all you want but expect to get the middle finger back. |

After today, Hughes will be going to Rutherfords office begging to bring Tanev back. Old Country Jim will flick us Wallinder or Lekkerimaki for Tanev @ 50% & showing Connie is a fair humble dude, he'll add that 4th rounder back to you from the Lindholm deal.
& Country Jim dont fck around! - Kevin R

Trevor Neufeld: Friedman Confirms Noah Hanifin to Test Free Agency - Trevor_Neufeld_
Going to market is totally different than testing free agency.
Going to market simply means not signing with the flames and being dealt on the trade market.
Stating he wants to test free agency like your title means he is unwilling to sign with the flames OR the team they trade him to which is not what Friedman actually said |

Some people don’t realize that when you draft top 10 for so many years in a short period, that of course you’ll have better players. Not all prospects turn out as projected as we see with both teams selections.

Flames have a pretty good game against the Jets, will that delay Connys trade expectations sooner or hold off until the deadline or even right after the seasons done? |

They said he wants a 1st for Tanev, not a 2nd as reported by some. Going to get busy in the next few weeks, someone needs to start, then all will follow. |

All reports i have seen and from listening to the 960 its been said a 2nd + a near if not ready prospect for Tanny. Because Toronto doesn't have a 2nd available, Conny is trying to wait for TO to offer their 1st. Leafs have already said no to that, Conny is waiting it out thinking he'll get it if they get desperate. Could bite him if Tanev gets hurt. |
