And the Frost activist MJL nowhere to be seen. - THE EVIL WITHIN
LOL. Here is what I'm an activist for. Letting a skilled and talented young player on a team that is supposedly rebuilding, play for an entire season in the right situation without the fear of the quick leash and bias that the coach has for the player. I'm advocate and activist for playing all the young players who are capable of playing in the NHL on a rebuilding team. Rather than playing useless plugs who are either could never play or who are just done and have declined.

I’m betting you haven’t watched 3 games Johnson played this year. - kennygarcon
How many games have you watched him play?
How many games have you watched Connor McDavid play? |

Had four assists in 2 games and his ice time steadily got dropped over the next three games. Saw this coming. - bmeltzer
In those 3 games the Flyers gave up 5 total goals. Looks like a great coaching adjustment to me.

I don't know that same deal was available to the Flyers but I liked Tampa's rental of Matt Dumba for a 2027 fifth-rounder several notches better than Philly's rental of Erik Johnson for a 2024 fourth round pick. - bmeltzer
Bill, how much of that do you believe was an intentional push for another... as with obtaining Staal over the summer... seasoned veteran with a ring who can be a coach on the ice/in the room... to mentor all the young Dmen? Sure Dumba is a veteran with more gas, but there is so much more in the heads of the grizzly soldiers who have been through so many wars. I'm not saying that that IS the best path... I'm just asking if Danny & Co. May have thought in that manner. IIRC Keith Allen seemed to lean that way... and Clarke/Homer carried it over to some extent. DB is honestly looking years ahead, as well as to the Spring Fling. |

That doesn't make sense. Frost is one of the best defensive forwards on the team.

I watched Zero sabres games other than when they played the Flyers. Dunno if Johnson even played in those games.
That why I made no grand proclamation on how he was playing. Because I didn’t know.
And neither do you. |

I hope the Flyers trade Frost in the off season. The kid would probably do really well on a team that would allow him to be creative and dance around a bit. It’s a shame really. He obviously has top 6 talent but it seems he just hasn’t been able to put it all together consistently at this level. Regardless of blame (coach, himself, combination) it’s sad to see such a talent seemingly wasted.
I’ve come around to Torts in some respects, and so get that there must be a team system in place. But I don’t understand why the current coaching staff seemingly restricts certain talent aspects of players. Doesn’t a good coach find a way to combine his system and the player’s talent? 🤷♂️ - mikeyo27
Since Frost was moved up in the lineup last season: 0.66 points per game.
Tippett from exact same point: 0.67 points per game.
Both inconsistent. One much improved defensively (Frost), one who is still a defensive liability (Tippett). Yet you'd never know it from the head coach.

I never get too worked up with the morning skate combo’s. Torts has shown he will mix it up pretty quickly if things don’t go well…. |

Yeah, but he is right in this case. The numbers bear that out.
Bottom line is Torts has a built in bias against Frost that he will never let go. I see him being dealt in the offseason because the two can not coexist in any fair way. Too much water under the bridge.

Yeah, I'm usually wrong? C'mon now!
I would choose to get rid of Tortorella instead.

if you were coaching the flyers, do you think you would have them at a better record right now that torts has them at? Have you contacted the team and let them know youd iike to be a coach? Coaches jobs are to win, do you have more of an issue with DB assembling the team, or torts for trying to win? Because you sure complain incessantly about torts, every single day. Its like your life depends on him doing with what you agree with

I'm not excusing Torts for the way he has handled him, but it's not like he sitting on the end of the bench not playing. Frost hasn't proven to be that good yet! Another reason that I want them to make the playoffs is to see how he plays when the games get extra physical. Will he become a shrinking violet? Inquiring minds want to know.

B+ from me for the deadline.
DB could’ve sat on his hands with Walker, like the GM wizard Yzerman did with his ufas. But he indeed pulled the trigger and got his ask
EJ wouldn’t be here if not for the injuries. 4th round is no big deal. DB has shown a willingness to do a little work to get mid round picks by retaining salary.
Job well done. - Just5
agreed, id like to see more ginning, but with it being the deadline, and the 1 game sample from him, you cant cross your fingers and hope he looks good.
i know some say it isnt a rebuild, but trade our #1 D (provy) for a 1st, and one of our top D(walker) for a 1st. Its not clear it isnt a rebuild making those 2 moves

Is it obvious that Tippett has top 6 talent? - MJL To be honest...NO. I actually have not been impressed with his game lately. He has been very very sloppy with the puck and if he isn't scoring he is probably gonna hurt the team at some point.

Wondering, now that we couldn’t flip johansen, will he be assigned to the A or healthy scratched? Last I saw DB mentioned he asked him to hang tight for a couple of days until his situation was sorted out. Is that where we stand? |
