This is fact! Hardly anyone knows about the rule because nobody has ever really taken this risk.

I still have about 7 private detectives out on the games played fiasco. Those back-up goalies are wracking up games played in an unjust matter!!

otherwise everytime you face a team from the other conference you would pull your goalie in OT having nothing to lose.

hadn't considered this, gives a bit more sense to the rule, but I still wonder if teams would actually revert to this strategy all the time if it hadn't been implemented.
