Edit: Shaws answer is as stupid as what’s Torts would say. A 2oo ft game is why Poehling starts OT.

Win… the… game.

200ft sure. But with all the open ice and all their skill players out against them, it’s a gigantic mismatch.

Torts not speaking after making this decision AGAIN is crap.
- Flyers1218

Yes, even the post game crew said they might need to rethink the OT strategy.

That’s my point.

Flyers seem to be one of the few teams that wants to play defense in OT- crazy. Go for the kill,- get 2 of Tippett, Frost, or TK to start.

I guess I’m happy someone talked him out of starting 2 d in OT…it’s like TK must just roll his eyes.

Frost extension coming this summer? Good chance price only goes up the following summer.

The Flyers have the worst record in OT of any team since Torts became coach, but I’m sure he’ll figure it out eventually.

Meanwhile Frost cracked 40 points in 62 games tonight. Sorry for the suspiciously small sample size, but for some reason the stats say he missed eleven games this season, which is weird cause I don’t remember him getting hurt. Oh well, he probably would have scored zero points in those games anyway.

It s funny to think Tippett is one of the fastest skaters in the league and cannot sniff 3 on 3.
- Trox88

Instead they sent out a guy with 3 goals all season, and another guy with a bad arm to lose the faceoff and then turn the puck over along the boards.

Suck bag Sanheim shouldn’t see the ice in OT, I’ve said this multiple times now, I would have started Couts, Tippet and TK and if I win the draw quickly swap Couts out with Frost. You don’t need defenseman 3 on 3, unless it’s Drysdale. Play offense!
- jd250

You’ve said lots of stupid things multiple times. Sanheim is a great skater and the team’s best dman having a career year. The only one sucking bags here, is you.

At least the last OT, they sent out Foerster with Poehling- which was odd. I'm not an advanced stats follower, is Poehling killing Frost in advance stats? Time to get the Frost extension done. The lack.of organizational depth and Frost's ability to give top 6 center production, seems like a no brainer at this point.

Flyers still holding onto a playoff spot after a brutal March schedule. 5 games in 8 days against the top 5 teams in the east and the Flyers took 6 points out of 10. I'll take it. Just hope there's no letdown against Montreal.

Could have had two more points if Torts didn't have his head up his ass. Danny Boy should call him into his office first thing tomorrow morning and demand that he put skilled offensive players on the ice in OT! Thanks!

You play to win. You don’t play not to lose. But you don’t give the game away. You should always have a puck moving defenseman on the ice. Especially when you start the OT and could lose the faceoff. The only time you should have all forwards in OT is if you get a power play. Then go for broke. Defense is secondary to getting and maintaining puck possession.Skill and speed are king in overtime. You have 1 point so you can’t lose it. Not giving up the puck matters and defense not so much.

Well I would’ve said they’re a lock for the playoffs if you told me how they’d fare through the gauntlet but I didn’t expect Washington to catch fire either. It’ll come down to the wire no doubt

Entertaining game. Glad they got a point. The willingness to defend in OT is frustrating. Get the puck!

I am not really concerned at this point. The Wings, Devils and Isles have been pretty bad. Flyers just need to handle business against the bad teams left on the schedule. They also play the Caps, Isles and Devils one more time. They 100% control their own destiny.

I would recall Peterson to get a start ahead of Sandstrom.

Just another asinine opinion. Sanheim is the Flyers best offensive defenseman and is a good skater. He absolutely should be out there in OT. Shouldn't start 3 forwards. Need to have one defenseman out there.
- MJL

Why? 3 on 3 OT is about puck possession and skating, teams that defend lose! You put your 3 best offensive players out there and you make the other team squirm trying to defend. Last night was a complete mismatch from the start. How many times does Torts have to see the same thing before he changes it up?? And Suckbag Sanheim is NOT the Flyers best defenseman to put out there 3 on 3. I would put York out there before him if I absolutely had to play a defenseman, which I don't believe a team does.

How is Suckbag Sanheim going to help you if the Flyers lose puck possession? I would rather have Frost, Tippet and TK out there because at least those 3 can keep up with the Ranger players and have a good chance to break up a play and regain possession. Having Suckbag back there standing around isn't helping anyone. Did you see his slow motion reaction when the Ranger player got the puck in the high slot for the game winner? He was backing off Ranger players all night!

This is what you call a career year?? Great, well if that's the case, the Flyers should have no problem unloading his sorry butt this off-season.

With the exception of a OT PP, when do you see a team go with 3 forwards in OT. If not, why not? Here is the deal. With your new found childishness with a new nickname for Sanheim. You're either just trying to get a rise out of someone or you're just clueless. Either way, it makes you look like an idiot. Sanheim is the best available skating defenseman. He is the teams best offensive defenseman and playmaker from the back end. Making him the best defenseman to play in OT.

Get all 3 out there .. Drysdale is the only Flyers defenseman I would consider playing in OT, maybe York in a pinch. Or how about Attard, he is an offensive defenseman? And how about Lycksell? The kid played really well 3 on 3 this year for the Phantoms, why not give him a shot? My point is there are better options than Suckbag, Cates and a banged up Poehling.

You're completely clueless. OT defensive coverage is man to man. Fox was Poehling's man but he lost him because he could barely move because the coach put up an injured player for OT. This is just another in a long line of examples where you show that you have no clue of what you're looking at in a game.
