Tortorella has been Tortorella the entire season. He is what he is. I don't see the players as a whole, who have busted their ass all season for the same coach, just suddenly coming to the collective position that they've now had enough and they're going to purposely quit on the season as a team, with the playoffs in sight. Not buying it. Not for a second.

So what do you think is the reason for the sudden collapse?
Honest question.
This is NOT the same team it was in March. At least not in on ice performance

It is very disappointing…I really enjoyed watching them up until a couple of weeks ago.

I’m with you! It’s extremely disappointing especially since the played very competitive, I might even say inspiring at times, hockey for 75+ games. The last 5-6 games have been classic Flyers team rolling over and quitting on the fans.
Very sad finish to the season. At this point I hope they lose the rest of the games to close out the season.
RIP Flyers!
Let see what DB and KJ do now! It’s their team to build.

Tortorella has had this team playing at playoff level intensity all season. It is impossible to keep that up for that long. It was the only way they could be competitive. The shot blocking, puck luck all season long, especially with shorthanded goals. When you get tired physically and mentally, you make mistakes. Look at the blown coverages and dysfunction in the team game that has been present since they came off the 7 game juggernaut? Completely different then it has been all season. They emptied the tank in that 7 game stretch to stay in it. They don't have anything left. I said all season long that the Flyers style of play was not a winning strategy. I'm surprised that it didn't break down sooner.

Why would a team roll over after playing inspired hockey for 75 games and then all of a sudden quit on the fans?

lol what? Sorry unlike you I got better things to do than come around here all day every day and have old mods living rent free in my head. I let you have that.

EDIT: I know you'll always come when I want you to. You're so (frank)ing easy to manipulate. Like flies on poop you come whenever I beckon you to.

I wonder if they secretly hired Matt Patricia as a consultant with out anyone noticing?

I will leave the guessing to others since I don’t know the inter working of the teams day to day dynamics.

As fans can only guess but I’m always willing to listen to other’s people opinions.

If you have one I’m all hears or in this case eyes!

It's funny how it fell apart when he left.. coincidental timing, of course.
I undwrstand not wanting to pay walker 5m a season as of right now, but if the cap goes up as much as predicted the next few years then 5m in the next 3 seasons isn't that big of a deal. That second pairing was honestly our best pairing.
If we legitimately go full rebuild then it's a good move. If they half ass it again then I'd rather watch exciting hockey at least.
This off season will be very telling.

I don’t believe the cap will be rising much, if at all. The disposable income of families is declining, viewership has struggled, Arizona has been a drain on the league, the league has a contract with ESPN who is struggling between staying on cable or streaming. I could go on. Safe to say, league is in a state of neutral. That doesn’t bode well for increasing revenue, and rising salary cap.

The only hope for rising revenue would be Apple, or Amazon wanting sports for their streaming services and decide to pay big money for it.

Also, I'm surprised we scored 3 goals! Admittedly I turned it off way before that.

For me it was the reverse. I caught sight of a 6-1 score or somewhere then, and tuned in.

In the OT loss to the Isles, our guys threw everything they had at the other team to equaluze. The Isles repeatedly had to ice the puck just to get a respite. This went on for a good 3-4 mins. Unrelenting pressure.

Then the mistake by Frost, just the freaking thing that happens sometimes....

But in the presser, Torts threw the entire team under the bus. He did not say anything about the fighting spirit in clawing and scratching out a point. He focused on period 2 and called the team soft.

This, along with the absolutely disgraceful handling of the Couturier situation, could have been the 'tipping point'.

Usually fatigued teams wear out as the game goes along. But in the first few mins itself, there was an overabundance of lapses. Not the effort kind. Just the basic kind of letting passes go across the crease, leaving guys open, 2 guys going to same man etc. The kind that Torts teams specialize in avoiding.

This coupled with post game body language makes me think the team has quit.

Wrong. It dipped sharply in 2022 because of inflation but is now back right on trend of the past 10 years

Not sure how the math worked out on this but despite losing, the Flyers odds of making the post season looks like it went up to almost 11%.

Why is that funny? I thought the same thing. And watching them just fall off a cliff (no pun intended) kinda sucks.
