If the Flyers lose tonight, we probably see Shaw and the other assistants coach the rest of the year while Torts takes the rest of the season off in the press box.
Shaw may have as many wins as Torts over the last month seeing as how the Flyers won a game when he was filling in for Torts last month.

I have them losing and I am already looking to the offseason and how they move forward.
Like do they buyout Atkinson or Johanson. Can Johanson be useful and eventually a TDL move? Can you move Ristolianen or Deslaurier? If i already have Poehling signed and I like Cates, do I really need Laughton or can I move him?
They have a lot to do to get try and build this roster into something for when they want Michkov to come over. |

I think he'll get a good look. Reading some of the stuff online it seems like he was one of the better European FA. Supposedly a tough guy to take off the puck and good net front presences.
This team needs a lot of work to continue rebuolding so if I can see him produce on a 4th line over Deslaurier I am good.

I'm starting to dread watching the Flyers again like I did all of last year. Their play the last 2 weeks has looked identical to the disaster that was 22/23. We'll see if they have any pride left tonight.

Too late. Flyers have been playing like the old California Seals. Montreal will destroy them tonight. If for no other reason than Flyers goalies can't stop beach balls at this point. |

He might be Farabee's replacement. Won't score nearly as much, but his balls are probably a lot bigger, and that's what counts to the triumvirate. |

I think people were blinded by the Flyers being a competitive in the worst division in hockey. It's not that the Flyers were that great, it's that they looked better because so much of the division is that bad. Even though the Flyers have failed win a single division game in 3 months, the fact that other teams failed to take advantage of it until the past week allowed people to delude themselves that this was a good team.
The underlying metrics have never been great. People forget that when the Flyers were winning in in OCT and NOV the team was still bad but Hart was playing at something like a .940% in the wins and when he didn't they lost. He only had 1 win the entire season where played average and they won.
A lot of things went the Flyers way early in the season for the Flyers that weren't sustainable or predictors of future success but nobody cared to acknowledge or fix the problems when they were winning.
That being said, tonight is anyone's game and it would be very Flyerslike to drag this out.

This is exactly how I feel too. I never expected them to compete for a spot this year, but somehow I got sucked into it. And then the epic collapse.
And I have been generally supportive of Torts, even disagreeing with some posters here. But as a coach myself, it is never a good idea to "insult" players into finding their game. Most times has the opposite effect, reduces morale.
Pretty sure we know Jonesy can see this. Wonder how they will approach it in the off season.
Don't even know if I can turn on the game tonight.

This is a pretty damn good description of how the last couple of weeks have looked.
I haven't even watched an entire game lately.
It's not exciting hockey anymore, which is so disappointing after the season that they had |

While I agree with your overall point, I don't think Hart had a particularly strong season. Yes, he was "solid", but nothing out of the ordinary. He also had a few leaky goals that contributed to losses, the one against Detroit comes to mind. It didn't look like his mind was completely on his game to me. Been watching him since day 1. And his exit? It impacted this team in more than a couple ways. They seemed flat in those first couple games until Errson gave them life. In summary, the combination of those two really worked, until it ended.
And this team had to play over their heads to compensate for games started by Peterson and Sandstrom. Takes a lot of energy to play on eggshells.
This team had to overcome the goaltending in many different facets.

So the Flyers will end up between 10-14 when all is said and done? That is what we were all afraid of. Hopefully they are in the bottom 11 and get some lottery luck.
AT least we will have the Caulfield/York debate for the next 24 hours or so. |

I have faith that the Flyers will screw up at being screwups and do something like win on a Morgan Frost PP goal in OT on an assist by Gurianov.

I don't think we were blinded at all. They were playing exciting hockey and outworking teams without having the goalies completely sh!t the bed. Certainly, the collapse isn't all on the goalies, but they do play a big part in this recent mess. Simply outworking teams isn't going to cut it all year, especially in the final playoff drive when every team steps up their work ethic. The team looks worn out, have lost their structure which is tantamount on team that's bereft of talent, and the goalies are letting in bad goals way too often. And the coach has mismanaged the situation by going public and embarrassing some of the players, which is demoralizing. Add those factors up and we have what we are watching the past 2 weeks.
The season is over and the worst part of it is that we don't have exciting hockey to watch for the next week. The only potential caveat is that there may be players who are playing for next year, with the Flyers or some other team. |
