Marner looking rusty/rough since coming back. Hard to look as good without Matthews. He'll struggle without a finisher capable of reading of of his playmaking. Solid W though. Matthews one away from the curse reverser 👍 - PlatosRepucklic
Of course it will take some time. McMannimal can finish. So can JT. |

Think they’ll tick? - Dozzer
Sure. You can definitely create a strong line out of some combination of Nylander, Jarnkrok, Nickie, Knies, Holmberg with one of them getting added to the 4th. JT with Mitch and McMann (or maybe Jarnkrok) will be good. |

Bertuzzi is up to 21 goals, half way through the season, it didnt look like he would get 10. has 14 goals in the last 21 or 9 in the last 13. Good run.
downside, if they want to re-sign him, will cost more. but now I cant see them wanting to break up that line. Leafs just more balanced now.

I think if they give him some term, his cap hit won't shoot up a lot. Same with Domi. Both those guys legit like playing here and they're both dirt bags, cooking BTs behind the Bi-Way listening to Alice and Chains on Sanyo boombox they lifted from there. |

Marner has looked good with whoever he has played with over the years.
He had a pretty rough injury, gonna take time to get his groove back.
But i think hes been a point per game since returning |

Meh, theyll break up the lines eventually, just on a hot streak for now.
Its been fun though
Plus if they give Bertuzzi 3 years, maybe he gets 6 per.
Tree probably gives him a 1 year deal and then maybe extends him mid season if hes playing well. |

I dunno, he got 5.5 on the back of a hot flash with Boston. Not sure what world he lives in where 45 points (if he gets there) nets him a pay raise. |

not what I was saying.
if he ended with 10 or 12 goals vs 21 or 23
he was trending for a decrease before this late season scoring..is what I was implying

Naw teams would just say he got put on the top line with Matthews and it was inflated on a highly offensive team.

It gives them such an advantage to have Matthews-Domi-Bert working. They don’t even have to be on a super hot streak to keep them together. They just need to be able to play with the Barkov line. JT, with Marner and Bobby M, or Jarnkrok, line up well the Bennet line leaving some combo of Knies, Holmberg, Willie, McMann or Jarnkrok which I think is stronger than Florida’s 3rd. Lots of options available for the 4th as well. |

I mean the hot streak here is a good portent for the playoffs, I hope, but I don't know how well if affects his future salary. I mean last year he had 8 goals in 50 games but was paid the $5.5m based off the 30 goals he had scored in the year prior (in just 68 games). This year putting up around 22 goals in a full season is a bit of a regression and certainly below expectations regardless. If they want to keep him and he's happy here, I would honestly think he's probably in the right range at $4.5m - $5m with term.
For instance:
Trocheck (25 g): $5.63m x 7
Monahan (24 g): $1.98m x 1
Paul (23 g): $3.2m x 7
Jenner (22g): $3.8m x 4
Bertuzzi (21g): $5.5m x 1
Carcone (21g): $775k x 1 *
Marchment (21g): $4.5m x 4
Bunting (17g): $4.5m x 3
If Carcone's name sounds familiar, we received him when we traded Leivo to Vancouver and traded him away in the deal to move out Zaitsev and his term (receiving Ceci). Here he is at age 27 - still not very good, but 21 goals in the NHL isn't the easiest of feats, so good on him. On a side note - he was born in May, not September, or else he would have been a rookie this year, similar to Bunting a couple of years ago.

Bold prediction. Matthews wins the Selke. No Bergeron. Hischier out of the playoffs. Barkov not having as dominant a season offensively. Marner didn't play enough games. Mark Stone dead again. Kopitar not putting up the points to be in the conversation. Lindholm sucking. Maybe Crosby if they make the playoffs. |

I think he might still get a small decrease, but a smaller one that he was trending towards as you said. I suppose no matter what - if he comes out and is a monster in the playoffs, he'll still get paid.

Of course it will take some time. McMannimal can finish. So can JT. - drexel
And Keefe has been using that line as his primary 'stopper' line so their offensive opportunities are going to be more limited. |
